| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 14, 2009 Bottle courtesy of ericandersnavy. Clouded reddish orange pour. Sweet fruits on the nose with a large feeling of aging. Heavy wood scent. Taste is cake batter and heavy grain. Long tingle sits on the tongue. Finish is mainly a dry grassy tone that reminds me of campouts in Oceola, TX. Flavorful but not what I’m looking for in a barley wine. Beerlando (2312), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 4, 2009 Bomber from 2007, aged 2 years. Pours a clear, deep, red amber hue with a small, smooth head of ivory foam. Settling quickly to a thin film with a tight ring around the edge, the head leaves behind some dense, sugary sheeting that breaks apart into wet lacing spots. For a two year old brew, the aroma shows a healthy dose of fruity, citrusy hops atop a malt bed of moderately toasted caramel, wheat grain, berries, and golden raisins. Flavors show even more hop substance, notes of bitter orange peel and spicy, wild grasses balancing out the sweet caramel and fruity wheat malt within. Rum raisin and perhaps a bit of fig shine through nicely, along with glints of dark winter spices. The palate is hefty, weighed down a bit by all the sugary malts and showing quite a bitof alcoholic bite. Bitterness intensifies on the long finish, with just a touch of oxidation showing at this point in time. Overall, it’s a fine example of a hoppy, fruity American wheat wine. I’m glad I let this one sit for a while, as it almost certainly would have proven too harsh when young. patrickfannon (303), Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 14, 2009 Botte. 25.4 oz. Pours hazy amber with a thin, white head. Aroma of sweet malts, citrus, grapes, and hints of vanilla. Full body with a thick, heavy finish. Very good barley wine. MmmcKay (276), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 7, 2009 Deep, dark amber in color. Nuttiness jumps out on the nose immediately. Nutmeg also and wheat bread. Alcohol is prevalent on the palette. Sweet deep dark toasted wheat flavors. Molasses dark sweetness. Rich but smooth. Alcohol imbalance balance brings down the rating of otherwise a pretty damn good beer. ScottyP (314), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 7, 2009 Pours a clear amber with beige head. Aroma of booze, caramel, banana, brown sugar. Taste like a milky way soaked in alcohol. Butters (1645), Virginia, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 7, 2009 Bomber sampled at Butters’ 1500 / MmmcKay’s 200 tasting. Pours a clear red with ring of white head. Nose of a foodlion brand toasted cherry poptart. Boozy, rummy, fruity, molassis flavors with a lingering hop bitterness on the tail. Good and resiny. More like a BW than any other wheat wine I’ve had.
