Commercial Description:
Another recently created American style, wheat wine, as its name implies, is a strong ale made with a substantial measure of malted wheat as well as barley. A close cousin to barleywines, wheat wines are typically strong, full bodied, deep gold to amber in color and feature a subtle soft tangy flavor derived from their wheat malt.

Pours amber orange with a decent cream colored head. Nise sweet nose with caramel and dried fruits. The mouthfeel is smooth. The flavor is a bit too sweet with sugars and caramel.

Bottle (2007). Pours orange/red with an off white head. Sweet aroma of honey and caramel, with fruity and grassy hop notes. Medium body, very warming in the mouth. Flavor is sweet malt, with fruit and caramel as well as grass. Alcohol is slightly noticeable. Pretty good.

2007 bottle. Pours a red/orange with a small frothy ring of white head. Aroma of wheat, alcohol, dark fruit, raisin, and sugary sweetness. Flavor of sharp alcohol and sugar, sharp apple. Quite sweet, with a mild bitterness. Heavy and hard to drink. Although in general barleywines are good beers to age, I don’t think age improved this beer. Without fresh hops and the fresh wheat malt, this beer is just dominated by alcohol sweetness. I will try this again fresh to compare. 6/4/6/2/12 (3.0/5)

Update 4/9/09: Gravity keg at Blind Tiger. Pours a dirty brown with no head. Aroma of nice hop oils, lots of citrus hops. Very nice. Flavor of lots of citrus, tropical fruits, nice and hoppy. Also some apple skins and acetone as the beer warms. A little odd as it warms, but still MUCH better fresh. 8/4/7/4/14 (3.7/5)

22oz bottle 07. Alcohol aroma along with sweet barley grains . orange color body with thin mustard colored head. Flavor has a good alcohol punch that numbs the face. Also some sweet maltgrains and caramel flavors. A sweet candy aftertste taste on palate and alcohol. Time for a nap.

Yeasty chestnut and pineapple aroma. Clearcopper pour with no head. Dates and little else. Lasting woody hop finish. Alcohol content is obvious, mouthfeel is thick and stinging. Not very enjoyable.
