JackMehoff (18), Boston, Massachusetts, USA Mar 24, 2008 Bottle. Enjoyed this one quite a bit while doing my taxes. Sweet hoppy aroma with a touch of wheat (less than the name would imply). Beautiful dark golden amber pour with a thin creamy head. Very sweat taste with plenty of hops and fruit noticeable. Amberish pour, a little cloudy. Offwhite head
Sweet strawberry, fruity nose.
Sticky sweet strawberry which is well complimented by a dry finish. deftim13 (103), California, USA Mar 23, 2008 Updated: Mar 24, 2008Bottle. Pours nice reddish color with nice white 1 finger head that left decent lacing as I drank it. Smell is fruit, raspberry, caramel and light wheat. Light citrus taste and decent malt with a light tangy after taste. Little bit of a earthy spice in there also. Did not detect the hops anywhere or the alcohol. Very well hidden on this one. Light carbonation and dry finish. Liked this one a lot and glad to have one to sit on. For being 11% this one is easy to drink. oteyj (716), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Mar 23, 2008 Opaque grapefruit pour with two finger beige head. Nose of barnyard, and fruit funk. At first sip, I was hit with an alcoholic tinge, followed by sweet fruit, strawberry and raspberry, and a nice malty backbone. Warming mouthfeel, sticky on the roof of the mouth, with dry finish. Alcohol is not nearly well enough disguised, and could have better balance. mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA Mar 15, 2008 22 oz bottle served in my Smuttynose snifter. Poured a pretty dark plum color with some haze to it. Small off white head and no lace to speak of. Aroma is dark fruits & old wood. Heavy, sticky, oily palatte. Flavor was a complex mix of dark fruits, malts, barley & brown sugar. Behind it all a strong alcohol burn. This is one of Smutty’s "Big Beers" & I would say it is. lordeche (397), Quincy, Massachusetts, USA Mar 12, 2008 Pours thick auburn color with white head. Lots of sweet dried cherries in the aroma comingling with notes of oak, malted wheat, and slight cocoa. Flavor maintains a good balance between strong hoppiness and strong wheat, cocoa, and caramel maltiness. Alcohol is definitely present in the finish. Fairly sticky palate. I’d like to age this and give it another go. JensenTaster (1585), Denmark Mar 4, 2008 (on bottle, thanx to Yngwie and Gunnfryd) Rubyred, white head. Cansugarsweetness, upheld by tobacco and wood. Potent and fluid mouthfeel. Tatses mostly of altheabonbons and herbs. The alcohol becomes dominant and gets almost burning in the finish. faroeviking (6024), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands Mar 3, 2008 Bottle. Pale amber. Fruity hoppy alco caramel aroma. Alco bitter malty flavour with dark fruits and malt. Wheat???
