Barley69 (23), Rochester, New York, USA Nov 24, 2007 this beer was a total surprise -
no head in the glass - orange color - very aromatic and alcoholic smelling
no alcohol in the taste - fruity tasting - an absolutely wonderful beer - like a barleywine only smoother and more refreshing.
refreshing is a good term and part of the surprise considering the gravity of this beer.
this is a wow beer for me tjthresh (1749), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Nov 24, 2007 22 ounce shared by Mike
Pours sort of a peach nectar color with soft yellow, orange, and red hues. Khaki to tan colored head.
Light apricot aromas with berries and citrus.
Citrusy sweet up front, and bitter as hell in the end.
Fuller body. Medium carbonation. Lightly sweet and alcoholic finish.
Really a good beer. Thanks, Mike. BBB63 (4199), La Porte, Indiana, USA Nov 24, 2007 Yet another bottle provided by ClarkVV and shared with Tom and Brian: Hazy amber hue with a small bu lasting foam, spotty lace and oily legs. The aroma has notes of apricot, apple, pear and berry fruit esters. Also notes biscuity and wheat vapours, sea salt, herbal and slight resiny hops too.
WOW, a powerful palate of fruity acidity and syrupy sweetness with added depth provided by peppery hops and bitterness. I think the wheat adds to this beer which is something lost in a few other Wheat Wines I had (read Two Brothers). The mouth feel is lush but still aggressive due to the alcohol and spice notes, meets the flavor profile very well.
This is a very well done brew IMO, I like how the bitterness and fruit plays against the sweetness, OutFrickinStanding! Get ya some!! Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Nov 23, 2007 From bottle shop in Portsmouth, NH--Poured a deep amber-copper with a small yet healthy looking off-white head. Sweet, bready nose. Hoppy and thick with malts and fermented wheat. Thick, full mouth feel. Sticky and sweet. Spicy and gripping. Strong flavored with estute hops and grains. Warming and uber complex. Yum! grandet (477), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 21, 2007 Bottle: Poured amber color with a small off white head. Very sweet to the nose as well as some alcohol. Very think mouth feel, with a sweet and strong after taste. Very warming and relaxing. Not bad at all. PilsnerPeter (2598), Flushing, New York, USA Nov 21, 2007 Bottle: Pours amber in color with an off-white ring on the top. Sweet, boozy aroma. Has some vanilla hints, candy malt, light sticky ginger bread, and evident alcohol. Sticky body, somewhat cloying. Very sweet flavor. Boozy, with an apple brandy quality. I expected some tartness in the flavor from the wheat malt, but it’s just thick and sweet. Has a sticky calvados character, a late spicy bitterness, followed by residual toffee notes. Too sweet, sticky, and hot, in my humble opinion, although the flavor isn’t altogether bad. Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA Nov 19, 2007 Never had a Wheat WIne before and I was expecting something fancy, but it really was just like a regular BW. A good one though. The wheat provided a great look to the beer, swirling it thick with sediment and hazy orangeness. Beautiful to look at. EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Nov 15, 2007 Bomber (from 2006). Pretty enormous malty aroma, strong oranges and sweaty caramel with wheat and alcohol. Slightly ambery dusky copper pour, with a lacing soapy beige head. Tastes strongly of rye rather than wheat. Bitter, very dry caramel reminiscent of Arrogant Bastard (and a lot of things grouped under ’American Stong Ale’). Strong, aggressive heat, harsh alcohol. Prickly orange rind with slightly resiny hops. Slight astringency. A raw disappointment, and a shame that such a pretty label is so spoiled.
