The aroma was sweet, tangy and had an apple element. The flavor was sweet, tart, bitter and had elements of fruity hops, apple, cinnamon, nutmeg and caramel. The finish was spicy and fruity. The hops were somewhat subdued initially but increased dramatically and pleasantly as it warmed. Very nice. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Orangey hop aroma, some soap, resin, and underlying bread. Sharp flavour with lots of lingering grapefruit and pine notes. Bread and wheat backbone provide solid balance. Sparkling carbonation. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 21, 2007 Had this a couple times and the latest version had the alcohol better hidden, but still some fusels throughout. Good use of the wheat in this one and a touch of nuttiness present. Slight hint of cloves and allspice on the aroma. Some caramel and toffee notes in the finish. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 18, 2007 Dark Orange Fiery Glow with White Bubbly Head. Syrupy Malt and Wheat with Fruit Notes Stimulating the Senses. Full Bodied, Syrupy Mouthfeel. Rich Sweet Malt, Wheat, Fruity Notes..and a Strong Presence of Spices..Notably Cloves..Leaving a Dry Spice Aftertaste. Very Smooth. Overall Very Nice but Spices Come Off a Bit Too Strongly Mid to Ending. GregClow (2495), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 11, 2007 Bottle shared with blankboy, mds, jerc & mabel - courtesy of blankboy. Orange-amber with no head. Big, sweet, warm aroma of orange candy and caramel malt. Flavour is big and well-balanced, with the malt, fruit, wheat and hop notes playing off each other perfectly, and not seeming like 11% at all. Great way to end our tasting! blankboy (3201), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Pours a clear orange-amber with a small diminishing off-white head. Nice aroma of hops, caramel malt, wheat and dark fruit. Flavour of hops, sweet caramel malt, dark fruit, wheat and light alcohol. Alcohol does not taste like 11%. Medium bodied. Really good stuff, I’ve liked all of the Smuttynose ’Big Beers’. shp555 (1681), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 4, 2007 Thanks to tronraner for sharing this bottle. A light aroma of abv, maltiness and nutmeg. A deep amber pour with a light off white head. A crisp light flavor of malt and a pleasant nutmeg flavor as well. You would think it is a holiday beer if it was it would be a damn warm one. I love the warmth of abv in my beer when it is this smooth. A good solid palate and carbonation make this an all round good beer. thanks joe
