robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA May 18, 2007 Dark Orange Fiery Glow with White Bubbly Head. Syrupy Malt and Wheat with Fruit Notes Stimulating the Senses. Full Bodied, Syrupy Mouthfeel. Rich Sweet Malt, Wheat, Fruity Notes..and a Strong Presence of Spices..Notably Cloves..Leaving a Dry Spice Aftertaste. Very Smooth. Overall Very Nice but Spices Come Off a Bit Too Strongly Mid to Ending. GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 11, 2007 Bottle shared with blankboy, mds, jerc & mabel - courtesy of blankboy. Orange-amber with no head. Big, sweet, warm aroma of orange candy and caramel malt. Flavour is big and well-balanced, with the malt, fruit, wheat and hop notes playing off each other perfectly, and not seeming like 11% at all. Great way to end our tasting! blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 8, 2007 Bottle (650ml) shared with GregClow, mds, jerc & mabel -- my bottle. Pours a clear orange-amber with a small diminishing off-white head. Nice aroma of hops, caramel malt, wheat and dark fruit. Flavour of hops, sweet caramel malt, dark fruit, wheat and light alcohol. Alcohol does not taste like 11%. Medium bodied. Really good stuff, I’ve liked all of the Smuttynose ’Big Beers’. shp555 (1680), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 5, 2007 Pours an amber color with a white head. Aroma is malty, and wheaty. Flavor is wheaty, malty, and slightly hoppy. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA May 4, 2007 Thanks to tronraner for sharing this bottle. A light aroma of abv, maltiness and nutmeg. A deep amber pour with a light off white head. A crisp light flavor of malt and a pleasant nutmeg flavor as well. You would think it is a holiday beer if it was it would be a damn warm one. I love the warmth of abv in my beer when it is this smooth. A good solid palate and carbonation make this an all round good beer. thanks joe jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 4, 2007 Bottle. Orange amber body with a fast fading off white head. Oddly grainy aroma is familiar but I am not sure why, light wheaty notes. Dry alcohol flavour on first sip, moderate malt character with very light caramel notes. Boozier than the flavour can support. Average palate. Lacks the depth required to sustain it for me - underwhelming. jsquire (2087), St. Marys, Ohio, USA May 2, 2007 Copper/amber color out of the bomber bottle with a foamy yellowish head. Alcohol hairspray and fruit in the nose. The alcohol is noticable from the beginning, with some caramel sweetness and a green grape, apricot fruitiness. It has the light puffed wheat mouthfeel that I get from most wheat beers, but it is sharpened by the alcohol. Interesting beer. Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA Apr 26, 2007 Thanks to Degarth for sharing this treat. Amber colored body wiith a thin head. Aromas of dark fruits, malts, some spice and sweet notes. I didn’t look at the bottle, and from the taste, I had no idea this was a barley wine. It doesn’t taste like any other BW I’ve personally had. Flavor is sweet, crisp, almost champagne like. Good brew, very unique.
