Slipstream (734), USA Jan 12, 2009 On tap at Rattle n Hum. Floral aroma, creamy head. Strong and full flavored. Wheat malt, honey, alcohol, nippy hops, some Belgian yeast maybe. Really good. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Jan 11, 2009 Nice copper coloured body with some stronger brown and ruby highlights with a very small slightly off-white head. Aroma of sweet sweet pit fruits, raisins, nuts, figs and dates. Nice malt backbone to the nose with some slightly bitter english hops also coming in. Full-bodied; Strong sweet flavour with malt and alcohol most noticeable. Aftertaste shows the malt along with some nuts and toffee with some fruit too. Overall, a nice barleywine, a bit off, but mostly a very sweet, very filling beer. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia way back a while ago, on 08-April-2006 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Juelze (889), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jan 10, 2009 Thanks bro for picking this up. Pours a rich rustic color with thin white head. Aroma is of rich malt, an fruit with a wheat spiciness. Taste is much the same. Reminds me of Old Curmudgeon or a barley wine. Decent brew. Petrucci914 (574), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jan 9, 2009 Pours a cloudy amber color with a thin white head that leaves some watery streaks. Aroma is caramel, cotton candy, cough syrup, and a lot of alcohol on the nose. Taste is thick - alcohol, caramel, toffee, and a spicy hop finish. Different. JohnQPublic (387), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jan 4, 2009 Bottle. Pours hazy ruby red-brown, with barely any head - beautiful beer. Nose is caramel and toffee, with some soft cherry mixed in with the nose, and bit of alcohol. Taste is rich with a toffee and caramel sweetness, with a bit of a wheat tang in there, but balanced by an understated but persistent floral hop note, and an alcohol presence thats spicy some times and a bit boozy at others. Mouthfeel is perfect - a soft but slightly crisp carbonation that is understated and allows the flavors to shine. Terrific sipper. HonkeyBra (1266), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jan 1, 2009 Deep amber pour. Flavor has alcohol, fruit, hops, and lots of sweetness. Flavor is very sweet, with a bit of a spicey, flowery bitterness. The sweetness and alcohol might be a bit too much, though its shockingly light to drink. No hint of the 11%. Really cool wheat wine. tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Nov 29, 2008 Aroma is alcohol, fruit, slight hops. Attractive ruby red color. Clear in body. Thin, almost non-existent white head. The flavor is very sweet, with an almost medicinal alcohol component. What’s wierd here is that I get no banana, clove or cereal grains normally associated with the wheat ale, as I had expected. I happen to be a barley wine fan, and to be honest, the sweetness is a tad cloying, even by barley wine standards. Some spicyness in the flavor as well. The finish is an confused mix of sweet malt, hops, and alcohol burn. Not the best barley wine, but enjoyable enough. I definitely wanted to try a wheat wine, and I am glad I did. But, I have to admit, this guy is a little too sweet and the alcohol is too pronounced. (I never thought I’d say that!!) canary dog (441), Rutland, Vermont, USA Nov 29, 2008 Thick and sweet and somewhat heavy. Cloying. It tastes like a slightly nuanced barleywine.
