COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Another recently created American style, wheat wine, as its name implies, is a strong ale made with a substantial measure of malted wheat as well as barley. A close cousin to barleywines, wheat wines are typically strong, full bodied, deep gold to amber in color and feature a subtle soft tangy flavor derived from their wheat malt.

Draft at Khyber Pass. Dark amber pour. Slight head quickly disappeared to nothing. Huge smooth barleywine. Mostly toasted wheat flavors. Smooth tasting but the high alcohol hits you quick. Sweetish, but less sweet than many barleywines. Complex wheat flavors but not much more there. Just a ton of alcohol.

Bottle vintage 2012 - Hoppy and nice balancing malts with a touch of spice. Cloudy copper with no head. Nice spices sweetness with a boozy burn and a hop bite. Finish is lingering with a hoppy aftertaste. Sweetness is followed by intense bitterness. Fun to taste but couldn’t drink a lot.

Pours a slightly hazy orange with a thin but retentive off white head. Aroma is burnt candy, caramel and alcohol. Taste is sweet pale malt, buttery caramel and a smoky astringent alcohol character that dominates the flavor. Significant hop bitterness also noted. Big warmth after the swallow. Not bad, but could be better tasting and more balanced if we turned down the ABV to around 9 instead.

(on tap at The Old Toad. ( Joe was being chased by a pan-handler while I was ordering this.) Pours a slightly hazy amber colour with a lacy beige head. A lovely barley wine aroma of candy sugar, caramel, toffee and alcohol. Similar flavors and quite bitter with a sweet and grassy linger. Mild carbonation and a foamy mouth-feel.

Bottle. Orange golden with a foamy off white head that fades a bit leaving one finger of off white head. Nose is super boozy and fruity, dirty hops, very rough and slightly metallic. Flavor is big, sweet and boozy, light apple, pear, calvados, vodka.

This beer is among the worst I’ve ever had. It tastes like bitter soy sauce. I almost vomited. This is why it was on sale for $2 a bottle.

No head, very astringent taste, very strong beer, I guess it just isn’t my type though

Smells super boozy. Some hops, some spice but overall sense I get is this is a booze bomb. Taste is bitter, mostly from the alcohol and a little sweet. Pours clear amber brown. No head. Not bad.

Aroma is wheat malt, mild nuttiness and notes of fruit. The flavor is very malty, a mix of wheat and barley malts, a thick palate and a mildly tart/warming alcoholic finish.
