Aroma of wheat, alcohol, dark fruit, raisin, and sugary sweetness. Flavor of sharp alcohol and sugar, sharp apple. Quite sweet, with a mild bitterness. Heavy and hard to drink. Although in general barleywines are good beers to age, I don’t think age improved this beer. Without fresh hops and the fresh wheat malt, this beer is just dominated by alcohol sweetness. I will try this again fresh to compare. 6/4/6/2/12 (3.0/5)
Update 4/9/09: Gravity keg at Blind Tiger. Pours a dirty brown with no head. Aroma of nice hop oils, lots of citrus hops. Very nice. Flavor of lots of citrus, tropical fruits, nice and hoppy. Also some apple skins and acetone as the beer warms. A little odd as it warms, but still MUCH better fresh.

Sweet fruits on the nose with a large feeling of aging. Heavy wood scent. Taste is cake batter and heavy grain. Long tingle sits on the tongue. Finish is mainly a dry grassy tone that reminds me of campouts in Oceola, TX. Flavorful but not what I’m looking for in a barley wine. jasonp (1514), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 6, 2005 Pours a fiery clear dark amber with a quickly fading white head. Aroma of honey, white wine, floral hops and a bouquet of flowers. Flavor has notes of wheat, caramel, zesty floral grapefruity-hops, pine, toasted malt, cherry, wood, white grapes and a touch of bath soap (but not in a bad way). Pleasantly sweet with ample, yet smooth hop bitterness. Medium bodied, smooth texture and moderate carbonation - it could have been a little more thick and lush. Overall a very good beer, pretty original IMO. dmac (1511), Toms River, New Jersey, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 28, 2007 22 oz bomber purchased at Spirits RB. Pours a clear copper orange with a small off white head. Aroma starts off with some nice sweetness of honey, caramel, toffee and a nice blend of maltiness but as it warms the alcohol takes center stage just like Eddie VanHalen forcing out Diamond Dave back in the mid 80s. Flavor of cereal and grains, raisin and lots and lots of alcohol. Perhaps this beer needs more time but it was all over the place and not that enjoyable despite it’s potential.
