Pours deep amber into a snifter. Head quickly subsides to skim surface. Warm raisin and plum aromas. Lightly carbonated with spicy smoked nutmeg and lasting bitter finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
bottle-thanks to vyvvy for sharing this awesome brew. I have never had a bad smuttynose brew. This could be the most consistent microbrewery in existence. pours garnet read with a small soapy off-white head. nose is nice-fruity, plums, dark fruit, very sweet with some light spices. i get a note of crushed red grapes as well. flavors are dark fruits, earthy notes with some light belgian character. this is the best american abbey dubbel i have ever had. This is great!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark brown body with ruby-red highlights and a finger of off-white head that dissipates quickly and leaves little lacing. Smells like banana with hints of yeast and citrus. Tastes like banana, citrus, and nut. Medium-bodied, but a little lighter than I was expecting for the style. A pretty nice dubbel though, but not the best Iíve had.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 5, 2008 Dark dirty brown with a bit of tan head. Very sweet aroma , malty and roasty. Similar flavor, with a lot of brown sugar and ripe fruit. Low carbonation and alcohol, very smooth and thicker than average. No bitterness, not very well balanced, but otherwise excellent.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Hazy light brown under a short-lived light khaki head. Malty aroma with some dried fruit, fig and banana bread. Solidly malty flavor but still well-balanced with notes of clove, banana, caramel and toasted nuts. Relatively full-bodied mouthfeel and a slightly sweet finish with some hop bitterness at the very end. The flavors and texture are there but this brew still missed the mark for me somehow. Despite that, itís still a decent beer though not one of the better winter offerrings out there.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. bottle 11/13/06. Pours a dark cloudy orange color with a sweet malty, fruity nose. Thin tan head that quickly diminishes. Spicy flavors, reminds me of a more fruit and flavor filled spice beer like that of anchor christmas. Hints of citrus, possibly lemon with a hint of alcohol to finish off the taste. Quite frankly a very weak unimpressive palate to end a real solid beer. Flavors are pretty weak when you let it sit in your mouth and after taste is not there. Other than the ending a pretty impressive brew in my opinion.
