3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a chalice a couple of times and a tulip on other occasions. The head was slightly larger in the tulip.
The rest of the appearance was based on this: a nice ruddy brown complexion with gentle orange to amber tinges along the sides of the glasses. Once the head died off, the lacing was somewhat clingy and slightly foamy.
The smell had a nice light blend of sweet to earthy and rustic spices that gently allocates some light brown sugar, caramel and toffee notes in the aroma.
The taste took all of those previously mentioned flavors and seemed to blend them into a decent yeasty/somewhat bread texture coating my taste buds.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body to make it fairly sessionable. The carbonation seemed appropriately styled and lent a light harshness to the tongue without overdoing it.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good American made dubbel. On the side note, this made a great dessert along side some Germany chocolate cake and also one of my friends used an expired one of these in a BBQ sauce and wow that was absolutely amazing sauce.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A nice winter ale served in a bottle. Warm brown amber color, lighter than most winter ales but still retains that rich dark taste to warm one in front of the fire on a cold winters night. Not dry either, this Smuttyhouse ale serves up the proper spices for the winter season. Delicious.

Pours a dark brown, amber with frothy white head. Spices, oak, caramel on the nose. Sweet Belgian malts, caramel, honey, slight bitterness. A nice take on the Belgian dubbel.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
DATE TASTED: April 23, 2014... GLASSWARE: Kisatsky Tavern pint... OCCASION: Easter The Desolation of Smaug on spring break--thanks, Shan!... APPEARANCE: velvety dark amber red body; frothy, creamy off-white head; strong, cloudy lacing... AROMA: doughy, bready malts early; cinnamon, nutmeg and some floral pine resin too--with a hint of clove; a pleasure to breath in...PALATE: medium-bodied, creamy and lively--warming and substantial...TASTE: soft, rounded, almost nutty malted finish; buttery too; more subtle flavors of indistinguishable fruits than the aroma suggests, with the main influence on the taste buds being the malts... OVERALL: a solidly-built, easy-sipping ale that feels right on a windy, cold April night....

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
355ml bottle. Best before tomorrow. Stunning red mohagany color. Big lasting head. Aroma is extremely clean for a dubbel. Dark fruits and some bread. Flavor is light, sweet, toasted notes, dark fruit, light bitterness. Tasty beer, not sure if its a dubbel. Feels like an easter beer.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Decent pour with a nice head and deep dark amber color. A light sweetness, which isn’t familiar to a brown ale.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz. bottle from Top Shelf Brews at a good price. Dark brown color with no head and soft carbonation. Aroma is light Belgian yeast and caramel malts.
Flavor starts with darker malts, hints of dark fruits, traces of yeast. Light mild spice in the finish. Hops also adds needed bitterness to round off the sweet malts and yeast. Medium grain in body with a chewy texture. Overall not the prototypical Dubbel but for the lower ABV makes it a easier session type brew for sure. Decent on the shelf beer.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
bottle - Pours dark amber with a thick light tan head. It has a lightly roasted malt aroma with a hint of dark fruit. The flavor is similar with a little roast and dark fruit. It’s sweet, bubbly, and seems oxidized. Decent at best.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This is a good beer. It is certainly not overwhelming for a winter ale. I would have like to see a bit more spices in it, but it has a nice taste. Poured from bottle. Dark reddish color, aroma is not too strong. Taste could be a bit more flavorful. If youre on the fence about trying this beer...TRY IT
