Nothing wrong with it but itís a far cry from an actual Abbey Dubbel. Sweet and malty with just a touch of spice.

Smuttynose Winter Ale is good but not a standout. Dark reddish brown pour but only a light short-lived head. Aroma is light -- stone fruit notes. Taste is caramel and stone fruit with a slight alcohol burn on the back end. Not complex at all. Smuttynose Winter Ale isnít bad but there are better choices in this category.

Aroma is malts, fruit/dark fruit and bread. The flavor is dark fruit, oak/funk, a hint of tobacco and a tart/acidic finish.

Pours a dark mahogany color with a foamy taupe colored head. Notes of candi sugar, bubble gum, toffee, and dark fruits. Bit thin

Dark pour from draft at beer bistro. Off white head. Fruity and blackberry aroma. Taste is kind of sweet but not overly for this style. Liked it much more than expected

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark amber-brown. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, nuts), with notes of metal, grape jelly. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. This is supposed to be Belgian-styled, really? Huh. Just smells like a poorly made brown ale...I really donít get any Belgian suggestions from any part of the experience (appearance, smell, etc.). Boring and slightly icky (metal, jelly) odor, flabby and overly sweet in the mouth. This is a bona fide dumper.

Bottle pour of fairly dark amber to brown. Nose is lightl sweet malt and caramel with some figs and dates. Flavor is a little richer with a healthy malt note and some raisins and figs again. Itís not overly spiced from the yeast which is good with me. Not a terrible one.

On draft. Brown color with some reddish tint, very little head. Aroma isnít very strong. Taste of sweet candy and dark fruit. Dry finish. Not bad.
