3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Location: Bottle I brought to Paulís Blind Impy Stout Tasting, 1/5/13
Aroma: Nose of chocolate malts, vanilla, and roast, with hints of Belgian yeast and bourbon
Appearance: It pours a dark brown-black color with a small tan head
Flavor: It has lots of chocolate/malts, with the yeasty and bourbon flavors noticeable, but subtle
Palate: The body was a little lighter then I expected, it feels creamy and smooth
Randomly, this was the first thing I drank blind out of all the beers there. Anyway, I was plenty happy to start with this one, as I thought it was quite good. A nice job by Smutty.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma has some dark fruit and licorice...a bit of a Sharpie note. Flavor follows suit and adds a touch of smoke and booze. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is fruity with a smokey/Sharpie note,

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle shared by Tmoney99- thanks again, Tom! 2012 vintage. Also notches for 2013 and 2014, so I guess this wonít be the last time we see it. Pours a deep brown with a small tan head. The aroma has a lot of Belgian yeast character, with notes of dark fruits (a lot of grapes), chocolate, oak, currants, and vanilla. Flavor of oak, peanuts, caramel, brown sugar, chocolate, vanilla, and fig. Medium-full bodied, with a rich, boozy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Would be interested to try this same vintage again in 6 months or so.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber to taster. Looks good; cola with thin lacing. Smells of malt, oak, and Belgian yeast. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Solid, but not spectacular.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Oddly effervescent on the pour. Dark hue in the glass; nearly black. Big bubbles pop like on a soda. Aromas tell a fruity, jammy, nutty, toffee kind of story. Candy sugar on the first taste, settling into a brown sugar sweetness, too much vanilla/bourbon, and not enough of the rich chocolate, caramel and toffee notes that would have rounded this beer out.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Appearance: Pours black with a creamy tan cap.
Aroma: Chocolate covered banana, vanilla, cereal.
Taste: Roasted malt, bourbon, wood, banana esters. Finishes roasty and woody.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Aversge carbonation.
Overall: A very flavorful, balanced Stout. Keeping this under 9% probably played a role in this beers wonderful complexity. Not a booze/bourbon bomb, yet not one of those bourbon barrel beers where you barely get any spirit/barrel character.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber. Pours an opaque, charred brown color with a wisp of mocha colored head, not much in the way of lacing. Nose is malt, raisins, vanilla and toffee. Mouth is mild sweetness, dried fruit (figs, dates, raisins and cherries), cocoa, some vanilla, brown sugar, a hint of barrel and a balancing tanginess. Slightly warm finish. Decent.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at ChrisO Holiday Tasting, London - thanks to The Peterís mother-in-law (Myrna?). Pours dark brown with a fine, tan cream head. Dark bread malt nose, hints of Belgian candi sugar, dry cocoa. Medium to strong sweet flavor, some light dry cocoa, candi sugar, rich toast, light smoke, roasted malts. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming to finish with moderate earthy bitterness, dry cocoa, toasty sugars, brown sugar, rich dark bread. Very tasty, nice bitterness offsets the dark sugars. Great balance overall. I loves the Smuttynose.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Monks Cafe. Opaque pour with a foamy tan head that left some runny lace. Black caramel ash. Coffee grounds. Cigarettes. Brazil nuts. Unsweetened chocolate. Bourbon barrel tannins. Medium full palate. Feels oddly juicy towards the end after such dark dry opening notes.
