OleR (2008), Oslo, Norway Oct 19, 2009 0.33 L bottle, 9.2% abv, from de Bierkoning, Amsterdam. A thin layer of beige bubbles covering a foggy, deep reddish-amber body. The aroma is light sweet, quite hoppy and medium malty with caramel notes. Also a prominent scent of red berries and fruitcocktail. Notes of herbs, mint and wood. Medium to fulll body. Moderate malty, nutty and caramelly, not very sweet, with a plummy fruitiness, and a bold, fruity and spicy hop presence. Also some sourness, wood and pepper tones. Feels thick in the mouth. Lingering hop bitter finish. Not outstanding, but a pretty good BW. hughie (3016), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Sep 18, 2009 Hazy reddish amber with a small off white head. Malty aroma with prunes, plums, raisins and leather. Taste is sweet, ashy and full of floor polish and alcohol. Mid bitter finish. Excellent. diabel (1366), Aarschot, Belgium Sep 7, 2009 Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam Hazy amber body. Lightly brown, creamy head. Aroma of caramel, orange peel, citric hops, yeast, ... bit sweet. Moderately bitter, lightly sweet flavour of oranges and caramel. Mouthfeel is a bit weak and also has a tweak in the taste which makes it out of balance. Quite nice, but not fully ok. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Aug 31, 2009 (Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 2 Aug 2009) Reddish amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, grapefruit and a touch of resiny hops. Fruity, malty taste with grapefruit, caramel, resin and orange peel. Full bodied, sweetish, well balanced with a distinct, generous, citrussy hop bite. Some alcohol warmth as well. Lovely beer. leaparsons (4659), Leicester, Leicestershire, England Aug 3, 2009 Bottle. Hazy red brown with a small off-white head. Aromas are toffee and molasses with woody pine and some herbal aspects. Smoky with floral notes. Flavours are spicy pine with sweet toffee and chocolate. Grapefruit bitterness with peppery notes. Decent but could do with even more punch. Very hoppy aroma. Amber golden coloured and very hoppy with a crisp and bitter lasting malt finish. Fin (3382), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Jun 20, 2009 On tap at T’ Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 07-06-09 Pours a hazy, puddly brown colour with an off-white bubly head. Aroma is US hops and there is some honey sweetness also. Silky smooth in the mouth, floral honey flavours, tasty big beer with good hoppiness throughout that drinks far too easily and is a little dangerous in that respect but I enjoyed it. Malts then dominating making for a full bodied ale that is easy to drink considering its impressive strength. The ultimate winter warmer.
