COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Pours dark amber red with a carby foam that quickly dissapates. Nice smell of a sweet bakery? Very sweet with a light bitter, aroma’s of caramel and brown sugar combined with hops. Very drinkable for a darker bear, a bit IPA-ish for a barley wine.

Aroma: Cookie, vanilla, nuts, waffle. Appearance: Turbid amber colour with a sitcky white head. Taste/Palate: Sweetish, banana, brown sugar, caramel, malt, coffee. Overall: The bitterness and the sweetness do not blend too well. Also not easy to drink.

Dutch barley wine brewed in Belgium, tasted at Arendsnest. Thick, sticky, creamy, yellowish white head, hazy amber colour with copperish hue. Aroma of vanilla, almond, cognac, candi sugar, strawberry, treacle-waffle, wood, lime, red apple, orange. Sweetish taste with slight sourish accent, banana, candied orange, brown sugar but all in a concentrated, refined way, caramelly and honeyish malt sweetness in a vinous texture, smooth, with dry, woody, candied sweet and liqueurish finish, dried by peppery hops and whisky-like, warming but not too obnoxious alcohol. Warming, vinous, rich: this is how any good English-style barley wine ought to be.

Deep amber color. Fruity aroma, ipa-ish. Full body, mouthfeel somewhat sticky and dry. Taste alcohol, sugary syrup, bitter hops, grain, dried fruit, some vanilla and some pepper. There’s sweetness and bitterness, but they don’t blend too well. Still like it, a lot going on, not easy to drink.

Dark amber, nice hue, lasting but modest head. A: refreshing malty aroma, crisp, hints of exotic fruit, wood, faintest hint of sundried tomato. Big whiff reveals licorice. Yeast deposit reveals vanilla notes. Interesting. T: largely follows aroma. Starts quite fruity and malty, with red grape juice notes, exotic fruits, caramelized malts. Development is fruity with a ginger-like bitterness. A faint boozy high. Full bitterness in the aftertaste, quite dry as well. Reminds of ipa. Very smooth.

On tap at Arendsnest. Cloudy copper pour with an off white head. Piney hop aromas. Lots of pine hop notes battle with the robust caramel malts. Average body and mouthfeel.
