Bottle from Bacchinalia, Cambridge. Copper brown, cloudy. Not a lot of head/lacing. Heavy malt aroma, caramel, bit of herb and pine resin. Initial taste is a glorious sweetness, fading too quickly to a pungent acidic bitter finish. Thick mouthfeel. Mostly good, I’m not crazy about the finish but all around a good beer.

Sweet malts in the aroma. Very smooth, rich and warming. Low carbonation. Sweet malts and some caramelized tinned peaches. Interesting dry hit of hop in the finish.

Light opaque dark orange, lacing small white foam head. Aroma is quite herbal, some leaves, raisin. Difficult to place taste, complex, but quite nice. Warm, lasting dry in mouth. (Velp 201410)

Aroma of sweet malt, chocolate, caramel, toffee, dried fruits, nuts, resinous hops. Flavour is sweet and hoppy, with a potent and lasting bittersweet finish. A really good Barleywine with a relatively restrained sweetness. This actually reminds me of my Barleywine favourite Anchor Old Foghorn.

33cl bb12/2014, Mitra Nijmegen - shared. Nicely designed and richly informative label. Modern composition of a rich, bitter, boiled down hop sauce of a US barley a condensed load of canned figs, raisins meet pickled citrus rind and leafy bitters. Earl Grey and grapefruit marmelade, exotic distractions to the well-managed stickiness at nearly every sip, while keeping the fumes at bay.
