COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Interesting combination. Aroma has the sweeter components like raisins and chocolate, while the taste has a fair amount of bitterness, which I think is a good way to compensate for the sweetness in the aroma and the strong appearance of alcohol. One of the best barley wines I have tried so far.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear brown with a small off-white head and and a heavily sweet aroma of syrup, fruits, sweet malts and hop. The taste is at far not as sweet as the aroma, it has nice hops, caramel, malts, fresh fruits and a nice semi-bitter finish. Nice one.

Bottle. Dark brown beer with a strong head. The aroma is spiced and sweet, and the flavour is spiced, very bitter and malty with a malty roasted finish. Overall a nice strong beer.

On tap at Arendsnest 8/26/09: Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a stringy-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet sugary caramel and piny hops with a hint of oak. Starts with good fullness and some orange citrus and grapefruity hops along with a touch of doughy caramel. Finishes slightly drier and bittersweet. A pretty well hopped and sweet brew.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, copper colour with a big and beige foamy head. Sweet and yeasty caramel-malty and slightly toasty aroma lemon- and stone-fruity notes, accompanied by leafy and spicy hopps. Sweet flavour with a tinge of bitterness, full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Moderately toasty malty taste with caramel, a tinge of liquorice and light to moderate fruity notes, leading into a medium-dry, slightly bitter and toasty finish with distinctively spicy hoppy notes. A rounded and well-crafted brew. 22.II.10

Draft @ de Paas. Brown, orange glow, small head which instantly dissipates. Sweet aroma with port wine, smoke, yeast, prune, raisin and used coffee. Strong bitter and sweet flavour with hints of the above. Could use more texture.
