COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2008 (Bottled, 9.8% ABV) Deep, dark ruby red with a thick, lacy and partly lasting head. A very delicious, strongly hoppy and liquourish, strawberry-sweetish aroma. Aromatic-hoppy, malty and lightly grainy flavor with dried fruit and well-hidden, yet warming alcohol. Medium to full-bodied, low-carbonated, slicky-rough palate. A very enjoyable and balanced, deliciously hoppy barley wine. I wish all Dutch beers were like this (well, it was Belgian, after all :P)!

Deep mahogany & somewhat cloudy body, with a huge and rocky IPA-style head. Fruity, hoppy aroma with a strong & sweet malt backbone; unmistakable Cascade grapefruit and peach, plus a nice malt profile with brown sugar, caramel and vanilla. The flavor starts out fruity, with sweet malt plus peach from the hops, and finishes bone-dry with typical dry C-hopping grapefruit and some peculiar ash-like roasty flavors which linger for a long time. Actually quite well-balanced for a such a bold brew. Not as huge or impressive as some behemoth barleywines like SN’s Bigfoot, but more delicate & detailed. Low on carbonation, thick on the palate and luckily not cloying. Surprisingly good, nice to see such a solid barleywine coming from a Dutch brewery.

Bottle at ultimate glasgow tasting. Aroma is bursting with piney, resin american hop character, hints of spicey yeast character. Taste is similarly bursting with american citrus peppery hops, a good pale malt base, the alc is weel hidden. A very nice and different barley wine.

A unique barkeywine, with the aroma akin to an English old ale, with citrus from Cascade hops, yet only moderately hoppy. An expirey date of December 15 2007 yet no matter. Pours grapefruity with lots of hanging lace. A medium to full mouthfeel, very smooth. A complexity of mild tastes: caramel, grapefruit of course, tropical fruit, sugar, yeast. One of the best barleywines I have tasted. Alcohol hits the nose, and is warming. Thank you Absumaster.

Bottle.Wonderful malty aroma on opening. Malts then dominating making for a full bodied ale that is easy to drink considering its impressive strength. The ultimate winter warmer.

A reddish brown beer with a medium and beige head. The nose is strongly caramelly malty, lots of balancing piney hops, dark fruits. Great, US-style aroma. Caramelly malts and piney hoppyness dominates the taste, some fruits. Not too sweet, surprisingly evem a quite dry. Quite simple taste but that’s working. Full bodied, low carbonation, slippery to drink. Positive, US-style barley wine with strong hoppyness, simple but balanced.

Bottle from Douberd - many, many thanks, Christos! I loved it! The beer pours out in a cloudy, dirty amber-golden-light brown colour with steady head and medium body. Aroma of intense hops and barley. Taste of fresh, but unspicy hops, wild flowers, barley, white grapes, spruce and nuts. Hints of straw and caramel. A very big and great beer - highly enjoyable.

33cl bottle from BierNavigatie. Hazy oakish brown with white flocks and a medium slightly off-white head. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. Sweet with some bitter tones. Spices, caramel, herbs, spices, brown sugar and warming alcohol. A great full flavoured barley wine.
