COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Bottle from ABC beers in the Hague (NL). Dark brown beer. Smells like BBQ! The smokey taste is well balanced. Very good Rauch beer!

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2012 Very dark brown, frothy lasting tan head. Clear smoke but not as bacon-y as some. Brown bread and some toffee. Like it. Medium, fitting carbonation. Medium body, very well balanced, not overdone with the smoke. Enough old world hops, too. Great stuff. Another top brew from SNAB. (On tap at Pint N-H Bierfestival)

Zwarte kleur met diik laag beige schuim. Ruikt naar koffie, peat, port, zoetig. Smaakt fantastisch, koffie, rook, weinig zoet, redelijk bitter. Super!

Bottled from Biernavigatie.nl. Unlabeled bottle wrapped in some sort of newspaper, informative and original. Black appearance, big lasting brown head. Smoky nose, peat, roasted malts, some coffee, perhaps even some lactic notes. Smoky flavor, subtle, coffee more pronounced than in aroma, bitterness, but little hops. Lasting bitter and smoky finish. Not nearly as extreme as the Bamberg brews, instead it’s quite subtle, but everything is in perfect harmony. Well balanced, good beer.

Poured dark brown with a frothy tan head, very lively once the cork was out. Aroma of smoked malt and sweet dark fruit. Medium body, flavour of sweet vanilla, chocolate and roast coffee over the smoked malt. Dry, bitter aftertaste.

Corked and caged bottle, 375 ml. Poured into a big snifter. ABV 6.5% Very deep brown to totally black in colour, with a tall and thick head on top, brown in colour, with good retention and a nicely formed wall of lacing around the glass. Aroma is moslty smoke upfront and while is cold, after it has warmed up a bit the smoke seems to be fading and more aromas are surfacing, aromas of chocolate, light roasted malts and a touch of alcohol. Taste has roasted malts and a nice coffee bitterness, covered with a layer of subtle smoke. A little bit of acidity as well on the finish. Very well balanced, the smoke doesn’t hide the flavours but on the contrary gives a little extra something. Medium body that it could be a little thicker, good carbonation and light dryness on the palate. Overall this was very good, one more great beer from SNAB.
