Cory’s endeavor into the realm of Flanders style sour ale. Extremely rare, inoculated with multiple souring organisms and laid down in French oak barrels for over one year, Le Serpent is an example of a Belgian sour brown at it’s finest. 2010 version used Washington State cherries.

Slightly hazy amber red... long lasting white head... Great cherry flavor/aroma with mild acetic notes... woody oak.. lightly tannic and hints of currants... body is a touch thicker than some lower abv Flanders, but still within style.. good carbonation. Pretty stunning example of a style that seemingly isn’t being made much anymore.

Bottle at RBSG. Thanks! A: Cloudy brown, white ring of head. N: Cherry, grapefruit, lemon rind, and noticeable sugariness even in the nose. T: Tart, and a goodly bit sweet. M: Light body, a touch oily. O: Decent sour when considering the cherry. But I am not fan of the body or the sweetness here.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy orange amber with a small white head. Aroma brings out tart cherries, with oak and wood underneath. Flavour reveals notes of sour cherries, wood and oak. The cherries add another dimension to this, amplifying the complexity. Excellent stuff.

2009, 750ml capped bottle thanks to forgetfu. Thanks Bill! It pours a murky colour of rust with about an inch of off white foam that leaves some decent lacing. The smell I got as soon as the cap came off. Oodles and oodles of sour cherries, vinegar, oak, some fruity sweetness in the way background. Oh boy, this smells great. The taste stands toe to toe with the smell. All sorts of sourness going on from the Washington cherries with vinegar notes that compliment rather than detract. It has oak there in mild proportions and a suggestion of Brett. Wow. Dammit, this is super delicious! Light bodied, medium light carbonation, good mouthfeel and is very easy to drink. Snake River..you’ve done yourself proud!

Bottle at home with friends, courtesy of Scott. Huge thanks for this one man!!! Pour is slightly hazy orange with a small white head that quickly dissipated. Orangey, tangy, oaky, lemony, grassy, vanilla, lacto, bread, and caramel in the aroma. Taste is tangy, sour fruits, orange juice, strawberry skins, raspberry, tart, biscuit, vanilla, and spice with a medium sour finish. Slick mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Nice fruited sour and a real treat to try. Good stuff.
