COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cory’s endeavor into the realm of Flanders style sour ale. Extremely rare, inoculated with multiple souring organisms and laid down in French oak barrels for over one year, Le Serpent is an example of a Belgian sour brown at it’s finest. 2010 version used Washington State cherries.

2009, 750ml capped bottle thanks to forgetfu. Thanks Bill! It pours a murky colour of rust with about an inch of off white foam that leaves some decent lacing. The smell I got as soon as the cap came off. Oodles and oodles of sour cherries, vinegar, oak, some fruity sweetness in the way background. Oh boy, this smells great. The taste stands toe to toe with the smell. All sorts of sourness going on from the Washington cherries with vinegar notes that compliment rather than detract. It has oak there in mild proportions and a suggestion of Brett. Wow. Dammit, this is super delicious! Light bodied, medium light carbonation, good mouthfeel and is very easy to drink. Snake River..you’ve done yourself proud!

Bottle at home with friends, courtesy of Scott. Huge thanks for this one man!!! Pour is slightly hazy orange with a small white head that quickly dissipated. Orangey, tangy, oaky, lemony, grassy, vanilla, lacto, bread, and caramel in the aroma. Taste is tangy, sour fruits, orange juice, strawberry skins, raspberry, tart, biscuit, vanilla, and spice with a medium sour finish. Slick mouthfeel with medium carbonation. Nice fruited sour and a real treat to try. Good stuff.

Pour out of 750 ml bottle, huge thanks to Scott! Hazy dark red pour with white head, aroma brought notes of cherry, grass, oak, earth, grain, finishing fairly bitter. Taste is a mix of cherry, berry, hints of oak, vanilla, grain, earth, slight yeast, grain, touch of earth, finishing tart, fruity. Very tasty.

GABF 2013. Pours a reddish amber appearance with a pretty decent cream colored head. Fairly cherry forward aroma with some light acetic notes, oak, and vanilla. Moderately sour flavor with sour cherries, a bit of dark fruit, mild vinegar, and a touch of caramel. Fun beer to drink- I’ve had this numerous times at GABF before, so I’m glad jcnielsen pointed it out to me this year so I could grab a rate.

A very nice limited release from SRB. Pours a clear, amber with a thin layer of off-white head that quickly disappears. Tart cherries are noticeable on the nose with some sour/lactic acid as well. Flavors are so nice and acidic. Mouthfeel is bright and active with a crisp acidic finish. Did a good job on this one. My particular bomber was from the batch brewed in 2011 and released in 2013.

Rating never got copied from BA. Sampled August 2011. Dark, hazy amber with a tall off-white head. Smells like cherries. Quite musty with a lot of oak, grass, and straw. Not quite as fruity as the regular, but there is a nice grape and lemon zest note to it. Moderate level of vinegar with a touch of leather. A restrained vinegar component to the flavor and quite a nice lactic acidity. Plenty of cherry flavor with some nice lemon and sour plums. Still a little bit of funk and even a touch of sherry. Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation.
