3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 NachlamSie (2077) - Tennessee, USA - JAN 19, 2012
Bottle ordered on Snake River’s webpage. I was able to easily identify this as a brown ale before I knew the intended style. Aroma is very nutty with strong hints at toffee and some papery hops. The flavor is milky with more toffee and an almost earthy finish. Not too bad, I guess. It gets kind of sticky towards the end of the bottle.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Travlr (4525) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - NOV 12, 2011
Bottle. The name brought back unpleasant flashbacks of my time in Korea drinking OB beer preserved with formaldehyde. Fortunately, this beer doesn’t resemble the Korean OB at all. Pours very dark amber, small tan head. Aroma is very subtle, mainly caramel and scotch. Taste is sweet malt, brown bread, light spice. Not bad.

Bottle at a tasting at James’ place. Pours a clear amber with a thin tan head. Softly smoky malt. Soft smoky malt, a touch sweet, creamy and sweet. Decent and easy drinking but nothing fantastic. Still a fine session beer. Soft light malt finish.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Strykzone (2906) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - OCT 10, 2011
12 oz. bottle sent from Hayduke. This beer pours a deep mahogany with a nice light tan head. The malt smells rich and includes grain and is like an Irish. It smells a lot like brewers malt. This tastes like brewers malt, too with lots of grain. There are some mild hops that some fruit and light bitterness. There is a hint of chocolate but only a hint. Home brewers will like this one because of that raw malt flavor. I am not one but still like it.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 nearbeer (2572) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 27, 2011
12 oz. Clear brown with a ruby tint and a lasting, creamy sponge of foam. Faint aromas of grain, spicy corn husk and molasses. Mild flavor is husky grain, light cocoa, cherry cola, nut and a hint of iron. Medium body is smoothly carbonated and well-balanced by a dusty-dry finish. Easy drinking and non-assertive; not a bad little session ale.

(Draught) Pours a brown body with a medium cream head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, and light cocoa. Flavor of nuts, roasted grain, cocoa, some earthiness, and caramel malt.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Thorpe429 (3542) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - APR 23, 2011
Ordered directly from the brewery. Served in a Hill Farmstead wine glass.
Pours a medium chestnut brown with some crimson highlights. Medium-sized off-white head falls relatively quickly into a thin collar, but leaves a really nice bit of lacing behind. The nose is pretty nice and somewhat complex. There is a bit of light nuttiness plus some chocolate and lightly-roasted malt. Overall quite good. The flavor is a bit of a letdown from there. There is some mild chocolate and nuttiness, but the finish has an off dry bitterness that doesn’t really fit and really detracts from the whole experience. The nose is quite nice, but the finish really kills things.
