2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Somewhat roasty, somewhat malty, somewhat coffee bean.... Overall it is extremely mild and non-offensive. Borderline boring. Faint hop finish - not smokey at all, not sure where they got that. Even fainter bitter chocolate. Mild and boring, not bad, but nothing daring or special.

12-oz. Black. Thick, moussy, quickly dissipating tan head. Nice webs of lace. Chocolatey, cocoa-y, chalky nose. Nice creamy high-medium body. Soft carb. Mild flavors on the mid-palate; chocolate for sure, maybe a little bit of roast. Tangy chalk in the finish. Not too shabby.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nitro tap at the brewery on 7-22-2004.
Dry hopped version.
Pours a dark brown with minimal head. This was served pretty cold so the aromas were faint at first. When it warmed up it had a mild roasted malt smell along with a whiff of fresh floral hops. Light to medium bodied. Up front the taste was of toasted grains and bittersweet chocolate followed by a fairly strong floral hop bitterness not unlike an IPA. I guess thats what they were aiming for when they brewed this , a porter with pale ale qualities.

10/13/2007: Snipe’s Mountain Porter has a dry, roasted barley aroma with notes of chocolate (cocoa powder) and coffee. It is a very dark amber brown color and is
opaque in the glass. There is a creamy brown head that slowly fades but leaves a decent crown. The flavor is packed full of roasted barley and chocolate malt. It has a great roasty and dry finish with hints of dark chocolate and char. The body of this beer is medium to medium-full and its texture is smooth and creamy. This robust porter is very flavorful and balanced. Based on my experience, I would say that this beer is under-rated by a few points. However, It has no residual sweetness which may be what turns some people away. I was definitely not disappointed and couldn’t find any major flaws.
12 fl. oz. bottle from Haggen Food and Pharmacy in Bellingham, Washington. Rating #38 for this beer...

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
9/23/07 On draught at Fremont Oktoberfest, Seattle. Aroma is a very good chocolate note forward followed by more sweet malt. Appearance is very dark brown with a low tan head. Flavor is black patent forward with some carbonic sourness and roast malt, but with none of the sweetness in the nose. Mouthfeel is medium bodied; kind of thin for the flavor. Overall, this was a real let down from such a good aroma.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Great pour, tall 3 finger head. Dark brown, nearly black, light espresso colored head. Good aroma balance between coffee and roasted malt. Flavor is more bread and malt than coffee and tastes full and satisfying.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle from Seattle. Last of the Seattle bottles from Summer ’06... sigh. Pours with a quickly escalating head of olive brown. Nice, thick black body that gives off aromas of chocolate, smoke, and roasted nuts. A bit vinegary in taste, with hints of smoke, chocolate, and bbq sauce. Bitter finish that lingers in the throat long after the sip is over. Tingly, carbonated mouthfeel. Not bad, but there are much better out there. Needs a bit more balance of flavors.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Explodes out of bottle over mug onto counter, I hope it has something in it besides CO2, settles to a shallow light brown layer leaving some lace. Black color. Light carbonation and heavy bodied. Roasted coffee nose. Starts sweet roasted/burnt coffee flavor, finish almost bakers chocolate. $1.39 for a 12oz bottle from John’s Market Tigard, Or.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Courtesy of 11026. aroma has a nice nutty/chocolate/roast aroma that is just very slightly tart. Dark brown to black body with a firm and quite lasting thumb thick tan head. Roasty bitterness in the fore. Coffee notes and very faint chocolate. Body is on the thin side. straddles the fence between a a brown porter and a robust porter. Decently made beer though with no major faults.
