Our Zodiac Kölsch Style Ale is a straw-yellow color that has just a bit of wheat malt in the grist bill, and prominently but not excessively hopped with Spalt hops from Germany to insure its pedigree. The palate is light-med bodied, biscuity malt with an herbal spiciness from the Spalt, and the finish is emphatically dry and crisp. Unfiltered & Unpasturized Original Gravity 1.046 (11.5 Plato) The 160 foot long Schooner Zodiac was launched in 1924 and now plies the waters of Puget Sound with the help of a volunteer crew and cruise passengers. With a 127 foot mast she is one of the tallest remaining wooden sailboats and is totally manually operated. Find out more or book our Brew Cruise at www.schoonerzodiac.com

Bomber poured a clear golden yellow with a lasting white head. Aromas of bread, straw and light yeast. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of bread, lemon zest and light straw with a smooth dry lingering lemon zest finish.

Appearance has a light hazy yellow color supporting a thick fluffy head leaving spotty lace. Aroma is soft with the smell of the spalt hops and malt. Taste is very crisp showing a little more hop than bisquety malt leaving a bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium light with crisp carbonation. Maybe not as soft and rounded to the style, but still refreshing.

Rather hoppy nose. Lots of grass a little citrus. Malt is bready with some crackers and corn. Pours golden with a nice fluffy lasting white head. Flavor is hoppy grass and light citrus up front. Bread crackers hay and light corn mid palate with a crisp grassy bittersweetness in the finish. Nice. Flavorful and drinkable. Nice effort.

Bomber from brewolf shared with the wife...thanks Micheal! - Pours lightly hazy gold with some floaties suspended. Light corn, mild herbal hops, and a medium grainy, dry pale malt base. Taste is pretty solid--again a light corniness, medium pale graininess, mellow herbal hops, and a dry, medium malt finish with more corn and herbal hops. None of the white grape that I like so much in a fresh Reissdorf. Agree with the other reviewers that this could be a bit cleaner, but as it stands it’s an interesting take on a kolsch.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours hazy gold with a fizzy white head. Aroma is bready with a touch of citrus/spice. Med body. Fizzy frothy carb. Flavor is rather firmly herb and spice. There’s some light touches of citrus and other fruit. Spalt is supposedly costly, but it seems to have paid off here. Don’t know what the Germans would think of it, but it’s much tastier than oh so many kolsches.

22 oz bomber courtesy of bvc. The pour is a hazed golden yellow with a foamy one inch head that falls with splotchy lacing. The aroma is herbal floral, grainy sweet cereal malt and a hint of hay and grass. The taste is the soft herbal, followed by cracker malt, and finishing with a light honey sweetness. The flavors are decently integrated, though aftertaste reveals a bit of off-putting dirtiness. The palate is light bodied, crisp tiny carbonation bubbles, and the dirty finish. Overall, refreshing, decent Kolsch. Thanks Brandon.

Bottle:   Straw in color, a little hazy, slight golden tint, large frothy white head, nice lacing.   Soft grassy & wheat on the nose.   Grassy on the tongue, wheat to a lesser extent.   Not too crisp, mild sweetness, and like Tom suggested, some faint corn nut flavor as well.   Not bad, but no too sharp.   Could stand to be a bit crisper.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   I would have no problem being on the boat and drinking this one during the summer.
