COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This lip-smacking dark ale is mellow and malty. The aroma is reminiscent of bittersweet dark chocolate and the caramel and roast malt flavors are exceptionally smooth. Medium bodied, with a slightly sweet edge but a dry finish.

Black pour with a 3 dimensional tan head. Rich fragrant roast malt aroma. Coffee chocolate. Rich flavor that follows the aroma. Roasty chocolate and coffee.

From the October 2012 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with an incredibly huge foamy brown head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was sour and malty anise, vanilla and cream. The flavor was bitter, sour and malty with notes of anise, wood, cherry and a burnt undertone. Medium length bitter, sour and malty anise finish. Way overcarbonated. Ok.

April 3rd, 2010 - I’ve never been to Snoqualmie. All I know about the place is that somewhere in that hallowed, mystical land comes my favorite brand of ice cream. It’s a thick, decadent, gut busting treat, and I think when I bought a bottle of the Snoqualmie Falls Stream Train Porter, I had something of a rich, dairy association in mind. But it’s nice to try a brewery I’ve never unheard of before. If the distributor is giving it a chance, then so should the drinker. The Steam Train Porter pours with a very black body, showing no brown coloration around its edges, maybe an almost ethereal ring of oak brown somewhere near the top. The smell is fresh and rich, like cream, accented by dry woody notes and a solid maltiness. There’s also a touch of chocolate, but it’s light, and content to stand off to the side as a supporting actor. The flavor is much simpler, sacrificing much of the appeal I caught in the nose. It’s a bright porter, relying on lighter malts, with some simple, pedestrian chocolate flavor and a regular maltiness I find in lots of other normal, drinkable but middling porters. It has a fine consistency, but because of how generic it tastes, I think this might be better spent with a meal or a snack - perhaps some ice cream?

Half gallon growler fill sampled approx 30 minutes after visiting the brewery. Pours a dark brown-black, some very deep ruby-like highlights when held up to the light and a thick dark beige cap of foam. Aroma is of roast, the blackish scent of dark roasted barley, some notes of deep cocoa and no hop presence. Smooth roasted flavor with faint notes of dark cocoa powder, coffee, and a little light toffee. Bitterness balances well and is smooth. The carbonation helps clean up the finish. At 5% ABV this is one of the few sessionable Porters out there since the trend is heading toward the over 6% range.

Aroma is coffee, dark dried fruit and a hint of chocolate. A dark brown pour with a mostly diminishing tan head and no lacing. The taste is rich! Chocolate, coffee, sweet malts, a hint of dark fruit. Medium-to-full bodied and minimal carbonation. Overall, this is a a wondrously rich tasty Porter. Want to have again. Delicious! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sample at the Tap House Grill in Seattle. The beer is a brownish-black color with a medium tan head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Light to medium body with a sweet roasty character and notes of chocolate and mild coffee. The finish is charred malt and coffee. Decent overall.

Bomber. Pours an opaque black color with substantial light brown foam. Plenty of unsweetened chocolate, roast malt and coffee in the aroma. The flavor has a good deal of smoky roasted malt and espresso at the start along with some dark chocolate, caramel and citrusy hops bitterness at the end. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with strong carbonation and a dry, bittersweet finish. The overall flavor is smooth and balanced with the right amount of coffee, chocolate and roastiness.
