DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 12, 2008 Bottle from Old Mr Crow. Pours deep black with 1-finger khaki head and no TX noted thru direct light. Nose is roasty dark malt, coffee, dark choc, and some rauchy wafts. The taste is roasty, malty, with a solid amount of chocoff and a mid-palate hop bite. The overall profile is dry, roasty, pretty well balanced, and smooth. This is a nice porter. kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 18, 2008 22 oz bottle, via 5000. Pours a dark brown body under a one finger foamy brown head that faded to a wispy thin covering. Light visible carbonation. The nose is nicely roasty and chocolaty with a bit of chalk, coffee, and dark fruitiness. The flavor has just as much complexity as the nose. Full flavored with roast, coffee, light burnt malt, and a slightly chalky yeastiness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slightly oily texture and nice soft carbonation. Overall, I quite enjoyed this one. Lots of flavor with a hearty mouthfeel. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Feb 15, 2008 22 oz. bottle - pours thin and jet black; head is chocolate colored; crisp aromas of roasted malts with bitter chocolate; texture is thin and flavor is on the weak side; get chocolate flavors as it leads to a slightly bitter finish; improves as it warms CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Dec 27, 2007 (Draught) Sampled at Taphouse in Seattle. A rather expensive sampler at $9.95 for four 4-ounce samples. Pours an opaque body with a dissipated beige head with lasting cream topping. Nose of strong coffee grounds. Strong coffee and cocoa. Flavour with surprisingly thing texture. Very smooth and good with a bitter coffee grounds finish. Suttree (2702), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Nov 27, 2007 Black, with a brown head. Milky, chocolatey aroma, perhpas a bit latte-esque. Much more coffee notes in the flavor, then a rather dry finish. Pretty darn tasty. ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Nov 25, 2007 Draught pint at Redbones on 11/1/07 Thin, but well-retained dark beige head tops a maroon-tinted-chocolate brown body, medium-high clarity. Little lacing. Roast and chocolate are the mainstays of the aroma, with neither dominating, and neither being all that aromatic, really. But fresh yeast and green, juicy hops add some further complexity. Muted vinousness emerges slightly with warming, but gooey fudge notes interrupt. Some bare specks of exposed roasted malts do dry the finish, but lend a bit too much ashiness. Very smooth, chewy texture is immediately attractive, while milk chocolate-like malt sweetness fills out the body and the palate goes to work digesting. Green, juicy, floral and lightly citric hops add little/no bitterness and typical American porter flavors. Dry, grainy malts, soft, doughy yeast and burnt malt notes all succeed in muting the finish, but some bitter cocoa-like notes persist. The chewy body helps balance the bitterness for the most part, however, and what’s left is a drinkable, straightforward porter, leaving, perhaps, a little more flavor and vinousness to be desired. No alcohol or flaws noted. mcbackus (725), Merritt Island, Florida, USA Nov 1, 2007 bottle thanks to boboski:
