hopscotch (5440), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Oct 26, 2007 Bottle… Pitch black ale with a small, creamy, light brown head. Good retention. The nose is a swirl of chocolate, diacetyl, guava, avocado and smoke. The flavor is reminiscent of smoked beef jerky… a touch salty and mildly sweet. Light to medium-bodied with a watery mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Watery, sweet, acrid finish. Not bad. Good, in fact, but a bit thin. My sample was courtesy of boboski. Thanks Jason! mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Oct 25, 2007 Pours dark brown/black, with a small light brown head. Smells of some dark malts, chocolate, and really mild roast. Nothing exciting so far. The flavor was much the same, with the chcolate and sweet dark malts taking center stage and carrying most of the flavor profile. Very sweet, almost sugary sweet on the togue. The finish was slightly sticky, and of course sweet. Good chocolate flavors, with some roast to back it up. Not awesome, but still enjoyable. redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA Oct 21, 2007 Coffee and vanilla nose, nice chocolate roasted malts. Pours dark brown. Roasted malts, hints of bakers chocolate, waterdown coffee, fairly light but extremely drinkable. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Oct 19, 2007 22 oz. bottle pours a black color with a fleeting brown head. Strong smell of roasted nuts and malts. Rich, hearty taste is of dark roasted malts with an ever so subtle sweet bread flavor. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Finishes with a roasted grain taste in the throat. April 2004 Indra (2023), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Oct 9, 2007 Roasty, nearly burnt, black malts in the aroma, some faint chocolate as well, burnt dark brown sugar and faint lactose notes here, also. Dark brown-black color, opaque, with a fine, thin dark tan head. Flavor is full of dry, roasty malts, charry and coffeeish, some faint dark chocolate present as well, becoming lightly bitter towards the finish, some faint spicy hop flavors but bitterness is largely generated by the black malts. Some very faint citrus late. Sharp and effervescent on the palate, drying, body is light-medium. Could use a bit more depth, but tasty enough for those seeking a dry Porter style. darn1207 (529), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 23, 2007 Bottle. Pours dark brown, almost black. Aroma of roasted malts & cocoa. Heavily roasted malts and a slight hop bitterness. Minor cocoa, chocolate as well. Medium body. Slightly dry finish, with a decent chocolately roasted malt flavor. pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Aug 9, 2007 Black with a thin tan ead. Aroma is lightly roasty, wiith chocolate (Was expecting more). Taste is roasty, with some smokiness, and light chocolate. Body is fine. robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jul 31, 2007 Updated: Jun 6, 2009old rating:
