This lip-smacking dark ale is mellow and malty. The aroma is reminiscent of bittersweet dark chocolate and the caramel and roast malt flavors are exceptionally smooth. Medium bodied, with a slightly sweet edge but a dry finish.

Draught pint at Redbones on 11/1/07
Thin, but well-retained dark beige head tops a maroon-tinted-chocolate brown body, medium-high clarity. Little lacing.
Roast and chocolate are the mainstays of the aroma, with neither dominating, and neither being all that aromatic, really. But fresh yeast and green, juicy hops add some further complexity. Muted vinousness emerges slightly with warming, but gooey fudge notes interrupt. Some bare specks of exposed roasted malts do dry the finish, but lend a bit too much ashiness.
Very smooth, chewy texture is immediately attractive, while milk chocolate-like malt sweetness fills out the body and the palate goes to work digesting. Green, juicy, floral and lightly citric hops add little/no bitterness and typical American porter flavors. Dry, grainy malts, soft, doughy yeast and burnt malt notes all succeed in muting the finish, but some bitter cocoa-like notes persist. The chewy body helps balance the bitterness for the most part, however, and what’s left is a drinkable, straightforward porter, leaving, perhaps, a little more flavor and vinousness to be desired. No alcohol or flaws noted.

Bottle. Pours a near-black color with a moderate tan head on it. Nose has a fair amount of roasting and just a hint of unsweetened chocolate in there. Taste is light and smooth, with a little coffee bitterness coming through, and a bitter chocolate finish to it. Nice porter.

(bottle - 22 oz) To begin with, a big thank you to jah noth for splitting this bottle with me. Black pour with a big mound of tan foam. Very rich aroma of burnt and roasted malts mixed with some chocolate and some hops. Smooth chocolate flavor with a lot of roasted malt hints and a nice hop balance to polish off the flavor. Very creamy. Thanks for sharing this one Dan.

Pitch black pour with a thin light brown head. Aroma of coacoa with roasted malt and hops. Solid flavor of coacoa, roasted malt and hops with a dry and bitter finish. The body is light with a powdery texture and medium carbonation. A nice porter.

This poured from the 22 oz bottle a very dark brown that let in no light and raised a light brown head with good retention and good lacing. Nose of roasted malts with chocolate, coffee, and ripe fruit. Soft creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is heavy on the coffee and the finish is dry. A very decent porter.

A very drinkable porter but nothing special to remember it by. I found it rather simplistic

On tap at the Tap House Grill in Seattle. Color was dark brown iwth a light brown head. Aroma was good, with roasted malt, caramel and vanilla. Flavor was really nice for the style. Caramel, roasted malt, coffee, vanilla and cocoa. A bit of chalk, but it wasn’t detracting. Good beer.

Black pour with a 3 dimensional tan head. Rich fragrant roast malt aroma. Coffee chocolate. Rich flavor that follows the aroma. Roasty chocolate and coffee.

(22 oz bottle: $3.39 at Bottleworks in Seattle, WA) After opening 5 consecutive bottles of infected porter from OTHER Pacific-Northwest breweries, Snoqualmie Falls comes to the rescue with not only a healthy porter, but a damn tasty one too! Roasty, smoky, ashy and fairly bitter, but also sweet and very chocolaty, so the balance of the two contrasting flavors is magnificent. There is also a moderate earthy, tart, woody, cherry character for added complexity. The chocolate flavor transforms from a sweet, milk chocolate to a more bitter and dark chocolate flavor in the finish. Although roast and chocolate are present in the nose, it’s also somewhat yeasty too, so I’m less enthused by how this beer smells. Medium-full bodied, perhaps a tad acidic, and highly carbonated, so this isn’t the most pleasant mouthfeel I’ve experienced with a porter. Pours a tall, foamy, tan head atop a pitch black body. Despite a bit of roughness on the palate, this is a quality porter.
