3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
17-Dec-12 (22-oz bottle: sample bottle from the distributor)
This beer pours a clear, amber body with an inch of off-white to light-tan head that settles to a wide ring and broken sheet. The aroma is sweet and malty, very caramely, with just a touch of citrusy hops. Same story on the palate; lots of sweet, caramely malt and orange citrus from the hops. Bitterness is very mild, so the malty sweetness does tend to run rampant, but there does seem to be a touch of diacetyl leading to a flavor of buttered toast. Medium in weight, partially from the sweetness, and carbonation is medium, but this beer certainly does not finish dry. Overall, a very basic red ale, kind of a throwback to the early days of craft brewing. Nowadays, most people might complain about how low in hops this beer is, and it’s certainly not complex, but it does represent an adequate entry-level beer for those looking to get into craft beer.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at Blue Palms. Pours with a hazy red-amber body with a white head. Aroma is dusty with caramel, light hop resins and husky grain. Flavors are of slightly soggy malt, wet dog and grainy. Not as hoppy as the aroma. Lively carbonation. That said it is still decent compared to the amazing large amount of boring amber ales out there.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pour is a cloudy dark orange with a large white head. Aroma is sweet amber malts and a wee bit of hops. Flavor is again a nice thick malt with a little hoppy backbone. Decent beer. Nothing great but nothing bad either. A heavy malt forward beer.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
The beer pours amber in color with a finger of off-white/khaki colored head. Mild citrus hops on the nose along with some grass notes as well. Toffee sweetness and bread. Unfortunately, the nose is rather bland. There’s a bit of sweetness of caramel and toffee and some mild citrus and grass hop flavors. A touch of bitterness, but a definite malt extract flavor in there as well. Medium in body and carbonation. Underwhelming.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours red like the name. Getting a trio of flavors here. First is a sweetness. Then some cereal tastes. Finally some hop notes. Balanced but a little watery.
