On tap at Societe. Pours with a pitch black hued body with a large and very retentive deep brown head. Glass coating. Aromas show a huge roast, nutty walnut, chocolate and coffee. Intense roast. Low esters, medium alcohol. Nice and bready malt character as well with a low earthy hop note. Flavors are roasty, lightly ashy and bitter. Dark/baker’s chocolate. Medium bitter, walnut. Rich and well balanced. Thick, full bodied, medium carbonation with well hidden alcohol. Wow!

Draft. Pours near black with a tan head. Roasted and charred malts, light sweetness, faint fruity notes, and mild bitterness. Good stuff.

Draft. Rich and thick as hell. Midnight black with a dense graham cracker head. Aromas of espresso with milk, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, dashes of vanilla and anise. Body is thick and soft as whipped cream. Gentle bubbles, big heat. Sharper notes of anise and molasses up front of flavor, along with hints of sourdough. The swallow hands over some sweetness to balance, in the form of smooth dark chocolate and roasted marshmallow. Big lingering caraway and black licorice. Very well done.

On tap at the brewery. It pours a dark brown/black color with a tan head. The aroma is rich and bready with some cocoa and a little green apple. The flavor is chocolaty and thick with a little alcohol and sweet apple. Very full bodied and rich with a smoky finish. Pretty ok.

Pretty good imperial stout, black with a floater or two, no big deal. Coffee richness, good alcohol warmth. Finishes with French roast. I enjoyed it.

Average imperial stout. Dark brown near black pour with some transluscence. Aroma is cocoa, some ashy roast, and raisin. Tasty enough with light sweetness and some hoppy bitterness.

[2/20/15] Draught at Societe in San Diego. Black with a nice brown head. Heavily roasty aroma with coffee, licorice and some cocoa. Bittersweet flavor, roasty, coffee-ish, with some dark chocolate, licorice and a bitter finish, more roasty, with some hops. Nice full body.

Deep brown-black color with solid tan head. Sweet chocolate aroma. Roasty and clean but intense; very chocolatey with a sweetness like a milk stout...fantastic!

One of the memorable beers I had during a whirlwind tour of SD breweries with t0rin0. Big black and boozy. Malty and hoppy goodness.

Draft at the brewery. Pours very dark brown with a fizzy tan head. Tastes like dry dark cocoa, smooth booze, roasted malt, earth, ash, prunes. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like roasted malt, dark chocolate, alcohol, and earth.
