On tap at Societe. Pours with a pitch black hued body with a large and very retentive deep brown head. Glass coating. Aromas show a huge roast, nutty walnut, chocolate and coffee. Intense roast. Low esters, medium alcohol. Nice and bready malt character as well with a low earthy hop note. Flavors are roasty, lightly ashy and bitter. Dark/baker’s chocolate. Medium bitter, walnut. Rich and well balanced. Thick, full bodied, medium carbonation with well hidden alcohol. Wow!

Pitch black color with dark brown head. Huge molasses, coffee, roasted malty nose that is a touch on the sweet side. The mouth is heavy with tons of molasses, dark fruit, dark chocolate and agressive roastiness. Somewhat sweet. Really good depth, though doesn’t take me to anywhere to new.

On tap at city Beer. Pours near black with an attractive light brown head and a fruity malt aroma. There is a full-bodied chocolate and treacle flavor with a very dry finish that sticks to the palate.

Growler... Pours Zhukov-black with a small, brief, taupe head. The aroma is a robust marriage of earthy espresso and 85%-cacao, black chocolate. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and laid-back carbonation. The flavor is burnt, boozy, carbonic and bitter with a lengthy, roasty, espresso finish. There’s also an unfortunate hint of cardboard-like oxidation here. Still, very good overall. Growler courtesy of richiesd!

Keg at Churchills Pub & Grille, San Marcos, 14/11/14. Pitch black with a decent tan covering. Nose is rich roast, lgiht charr, chocolate, dark fruit peel, spice, toffee. Taste comprises rich dark fruits, chocolate sauce, light booze but kept in check, aniseed, spice, rich malt cloak. Medium + body, fine carbonation, smei drying close. Decent impy but maybe just gets a little too hot to be a great for me.

Really smooth drinking imperial stout. I can’t believe it’s 9.8 ABV. Chocolate, coffee dominate but also some caramel and roast driven flavors. smooth and great with dessert.

Sampled at GABF 2014 with Andrew, Mel and David. Pours a deep brown body - nearly black with thin tan lacing. Aroma is rich earthy chocolate and light fruity nut profile .Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with notes of earthy chocolatey roast, light wood, light nut character. Pretty straightforward, but good!

Poured up on tap at the brewery where it exhibits a nice deep dark body that supports a mocha colored head of foam that leaves behind complete black out sheet lacing. Beautiful looking impy. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, toasted toffee (love that), a bit of caramel and just a sliver of burnt maltiness. This smells really nice. I love the toasted toffee sweetness going on amid the dark roasted malts and slivers of black patent burnt malts. The taste starts smooth with some thick malty sweetness moving quickly into chocolate malts, dark roasted malts and then molasses sweetness. To midway it gets into sort of chocolate brownie drizzled with coffee and espresso grounds. This ends smooth and urging for another sip. I love this. It is balanced and smooth and rich and deep with lovely sweetness and roastiness. More sips reveal a savory rich toffee sweetness, wow!
