Draft at Societe. I have to admit I didnt even want to try this beer since all their IPAs were so delicious but a friend said this stout is awesome and I can now confirm this. Black as black. Big roasted malt nose with some big smoke... Taste is roasted malts, nuts, smoke in a big way, spicey. Damn this is good. The smoke and spiceyness in this is awesome. Alcohol is hidden well. Fully bodied but creamy smooth.. Great beer!

Taster... Black pour with thick brown head... Lots of coffee and dark chocolate ... Amazing since these are not ingredients... Full flavor and smooth finish...

Sampled at GABF 2014 with Andrew, Mel and David. Pours a deep brown body - nearly black with thin tan lacing. Aroma is rich earthy chocolate and light fruity nut profile .Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with notes of earthy chocolatey roast, light wood, light nut character. Pretty straightforward, but good!

Poured up on tap at the brewery where it exhibits a nice deep dark body that supports a mocha colored head of foam that leaves behind complete black out sheet lacing. Beautiful looking impy. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, toasted toffee (love that), a bit of caramel and just a sliver of burnt maltiness. This smells really nice. I love the toasted toffee sweetness going on amid the dark roasted malts and slivers of black patent burnt malts. The taste starts smooth with some thick malty sweetness moving quickly into chocolate malts, dark roasted malts and then molasses sweetness. To midway it gets into sort of chocolate brownie drizzled with coffee and espresso grounds. This ends smooth and urging for another sip. I love this. It is balanced and smooth and rich and deep with lovely sweetness and roastiness. More sips reveal a savory rich toffee sweetness, wow!

Sampled on Tap at GABF 2014. Pour is pitch black with a frothy brown head and good lacing. Big coffee, roast, dark cocoa, vanilla, oak, somewhat grassy, and earthy aroma. Taste is coconut, toasted malt, light raisin, espresso, brown sugar, and nutty with a roasted finish. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Delicious stuff! I really wish I had more opportunities to try beer from these guys.

Tap. Dark hue with brown head. Aroma is cocoa, toffee, molasses, coffee. Thick mouthfeel. Taste is lightly sweet with astringent following. Overall this was like drinking bakers chocolate. Very good.

"At 9.8% it’s strong and robust, but very smooth, showing almost NO heat. Rich aroma and flavor of bitter chocolate, black licorice, and just a hint of smoke. A very well put together imperial stout."

Inky black pour, brown head. Nice lacing. Great stout. It’s roasty but creamy and smooth. Incredible mix of coffee and molasses flavors. Has a port wine note to it. This is spectacular. Wow.

Pours black with a mocha cap, pretty dark, bourbon khaki, good lacing and retention. Rich aroma, mounds of chocolate, burnt caramel, roast, dark bread, chocolatey coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, some milk chocolate, very good. Big rich taste to match the aroma, lots of chocolate, roast and coffee flavor, particularly big on mocha-ish chocolate coffee flavor, moderate but lasting sweetness, mild hop and roast bitterness in the finish. Mouth coating feel, smooth and oily, long finish.

On tap at Societe brewpub. Usual darkness in appearance. Aroma is roast malts. Taste is super drinkable - roast and mild coffee flavours. Feels like an oatmeal stout. Not overly complex. Overall, good but not one I would have again.
