3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
19th March 2014, San Diego’s old Fish Market Bar, sat on the terrace facing the bay sunning ourselves. One of five beers that we took during a leisurely afternoon. Clear, almost straw blonde in colour with a white covering for a head. Mild citrus front to the nose and taste, obviously an American take on a Belgian Ale because it tastes nothing like what I was expecting (being a Brit who visits Belgium on a regular basis). I did however enjoy it, some hints of yeastiness within the flavours made it semi-interesting and I found it easy to drink while watching the water lap against the shore.

Tap. Pours clear pale golden, medium creamy white head, great lacing. Aroma is grass, pepper, yeast. Flavor is the same, but of lemongrass, honey, a bit herbal, yeast, green pepper corns. Light sweet, little bitterness. Light body, creamy mouthfeel. Nice.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap in San Diego (CA)
This Belgian ale had a very distinct West Coast feel. Unlike the dry texture of those in Europe this one hides a delayed bitterness. Just thinking about it again makes my mouth water.
Aroma / Appearance - The carbonated golden base shimmers with life. Light honey, cereal grains, candy sugar, and a fresh airy feel are open and fit in well with the nice weather. This does not have much depth but what is present works to maximum effect.
Flavor / Palate - Golden crisp, honey, and cotton candy rise from the tongue to fill the mouth with freshness. The fabric softener finish tickles the throat. If it were a bit lower ABV then this would make a great session beer. As it is two or three pints would be a great way to spend an evening.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUL 13, 2012 SS Growler from the brewery. Spicy white pepper aroma with some flowery herbal hops, light Belgian banana esters behind with some cracker malt. Flavor follows suit, some nice hops again with the spicy white pepper pretty prominent. There is some of the fruity yeast, but not too much. Reminds me a bit of Taras Boulba, which I’m told is what the brewers were shooting for, so good on them. Scant sweetness, this finishes nice and dry with earthy bitterness peaking at a 3-4. Pretty tasty.
Old rating follows. Tap at Newport Pizza in OB. Clear light yellow gold with a small white head, down to a tattered film. Very dry, Belgian yeasty. Some dry herbal hops. Dry finish, bitterness at 3. Light body mod carb. Nice dry light belgian pale. Will update later.

Sampled at GABF 2012. Didn’t make much of an impression. I will have to head to the brewery and try under more sedate surroundings for a better review. Just not much flavor or zing.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at City Beer in San Francisco. Has a restrained aroma of cereal grains. An enjoyable representation of the style. Typical sweetness along with Belgian yeastiness.
Flavourful and very quaffable.
