3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
GABF 2012, October 12, Friday. Very Belgian in character. Dry with lots of hops and Belgian yeast, but lower alcohol, making me think of Orval or a dry saison. A great beer.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
19th March 2014, San Diego’s old Fish Market Bar, sat on the terrace facing the bay sunning ourselves. One of five beers that we took during a leisurely afternoon. Clear, almost straw blonde in colour with a white covering for a head. Mild citrus front to the nose and taste, obviously an American take on a Belgian Ale because it tastes nothing like what I was expecting (being a Brit who visits Belgium on a regular basis). I did however enjoy it, some hints of yeastiness within the flavours made it semi-interesting and I found it easy to drink while watching the water lap against the shore.

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
draft at the brewery, a miss for me. Nothing bad about it, just over the top belgian yeast flavors unbalanced this one. Overwhelmed with balances and spices.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at the brewery. It pours a clear pale yellow color with a white head. The aroma is light and spicy with cinnamon, clove, coriander and pepper. Nice yeast esters. The flavor is dry and spicy with more cinnamon, coriander with a touch of pepper and clove. Pale malt and light pear esters in the background. A good Belgian.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Barrels And Bottles. Light hazy gold appearance with a lacy white head. The nose is rustic yeast, earthy and lightly floral with notes of toasted grain. Similar flavor. Medium body with ample carbonation. I like this.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sampled at Societe; July 2012
Clear, light gold hue, with a frothy, thin, white head. The aroma has an ample earthy spiciness to it, that is not unlike grassy coriander. This is supported by a fruitiness that reminds me of pears and perhaps a touch of melon, as well as some grassy, pale cracker leaning, malt aromatics. The malt plays a clearly supporting role to the yeast / fermentation character.
Slightly sweet, with lots of fruity esters, the beer tastes of green apple, pear, and perhaps a touch of melon. There is a grassy, and herbal straw character here that is a compilation of the malt, some light hop notes and the fermentation character. This has a solid, though light, bitterness to it in the finish, and there is a slightly musty, earthy, spiciness as well as ample, clove like phenolic character that really lingers in the finish.
Not bad, but seems a bit on the “hot” side. It is not actually hot from alcohol, but does seem like the yeast strain might be a bit too characterful for the rest of this beer. Still, this is quite enjoyable.
