COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Widow can be described only as a "darker, stronger Belgian-style beer." With a grain bill that leaves the beer a dark mahogany color and a hop bill with a larger than "normal" dosage of European hops, this beer will keep the drinker investigating its complexities. A dry finish and lots of late hops make this beer very drinkable, even at 9.2% abv.

On Tap City Beer SF: Pours a deep deep red with little head. Aroma is a bit light for the style. I find bready yeast notes which seems odd for the style with some raisin, some spice. Taste is this same sort of bready spice combo perhaps it’s all of the euro hops throwing off the style but most of the belgian yeast flavors seem lost in here. Palate is average, I like a bit more dryness and perk on the tongue. Overall this is a decent beer but not really worth seeking out. A bit disappointing considering all I’d heard about this brewery.

Tap. Pours clear hazel, small beige head, some lacing. Aroma is bready, roast, yeast. Flavor is an interesting mix of roasty malts, peppery yeast. Light sweet, light bitter. Medium body.

Draught at the brewpub. Clear amber beer with a nice beige head. Fruity yeasty aroma, caramel, citrus, wheat notes, banana, biscuits, grapes, some red apples. Fruity caramel flavor, grapes, licorice, yeasty notes, spicy notes, alcohol is very well hidden.

Enjoyed at their tap room. A lace sheet, a good mouthfeel. Richer malting, best of the Belgians tried today.

On tap at Societe, pours a deep dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma of dark earthy malts and bread. Flavour brings out earthy malts, salty notes and dry earthy hops. Pretty solid stuff. Dry and well-balanced.

On draught at Stone World Bistro & Gardens in Escondido. Pours a clear dark brownish-amber color with a medium foamy tan head that dissipates gradually. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of dark fruit, malt and hops. Medium to full body with flavors of earthy yeast, plum and caramel malt. The finish is fruity and malty. Decent overall.

Pours a light cola brown with a small tan head with a little lacing. Aroma is of bready malts, molasses, raisins, and some spicy caramel. Taste is bready sweet malts, dark fruits, molasses, caramel, raisins, and some light spicy hops. Has a medium-full body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a semi dry, slighty bitter, medium long finish. Overall, a pretty soild hoppy interpretation of a Belgian strong.

Pours a dark, reddish brown. It’s just a bit too dark to assess clarity. Small beige head. No lacing and it mostly fades to a ring of foam after a minute. The aroma had earth, molasses, raisins, doughy bread, caramel and a bit of chocolate. It smells sweeter than it tastes. The taste is drier than expected, though not off for the style. It has a woody dryness with a sweet and fruity finish. Raisins, apples, dates, brown sugar and mushrooms at the end. Carbonation is somewhat high for the style. It’s also rather light for the abv and style. Interesting beer, though it doesn’t quite win me over.
