The Widow can be described only as a "darker, stronger Belgian-style beer." With a grain bill that leaves the beer a dark mahogany color and a hop bill with a larger than "normal" dosage of European hops, this beer will keep the drinker investigating its complexities. A dry finish and lots of late hops make this beer very drinkable, even at 9.2% abv.

On Tap City Beer SF: Pours a deep deep red with little head. Aroma is a bit light for the style. I find bready yeast notes which seems odd for the style with some raisin, some spice. Taste is this same sort of bready spice combo perhaps it’s all of the euro hops throwing off the style but most of the belgian yeast flavors seem lost in here. Palate is average, I like a bit more dryness and perk on the tongue. Overall this is a decent beer but not really worth seeking out. A bit disappointing considering all I’d heard about this brewery.

[2/20/15] Draught at Societe in San Diego. Clear deep reddish amber. Estery aroma of overripe fruits and caramel. Sweet flavor with malt, caramel, fruit esters, a phenolic touch and an alcoholic note. Medium-bodied.

draft at brewery, ah the widow i liked. Strong nutty and dry. Great malts, caramel, nuts, and malt flavors, sounds like a candy bar but not cloying at all. Dry finish makes this a winner.

Growler... Clear, deep, dark mahogany pour with a small, creamy, mushroom-colored head. In the aroma, I’m picking up malty and vinous notes of dark fruits, fortified wine and burnt caramel. Medium to full-bodied with soft carbonation. The flavor is malty, roasty, minerally and mildly bitter. Roasty, mineral finish. The relatively high ABV is not apparent here. Growler courtesy of richiesd!

On tap at their tasting room. Pours a clear copper ruby with a thin off white head. Caramel and toffee in the aroma and flavor. Some raisins. Finishes dry. Nice beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at the brewery with Linh. Pours a deep brown with light lacing. Lots of heat, licorice, booze, grain and sweet malt. Not a huge fan of this one.

"Solid brew, still pretty tame in flavor of not in alcohol (it shows a little). More bready and doughy than the others with darker malts and fruit. Dry finish. Would score higher if it didn’t get a touch hot at the end."

Draught at the brewpub. Clear amber beer with a nice beige head. Fruity yeasty aroma, caramel, citrus, wheat notes, banana, biscuits, grapes, some red apples. Fruity caramel flavor, grapes, licorice, yeasty notes, spicy notes, alcohol is very well hidden.
