3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the Sockeye brewpub pouring deep dark brown with tan head. The aroma is a mix of burnt malts and sweet black licorice rolling into chocolate and a touch of caramel. The taste is pretty sweet with malts heading toward some chocolate and dark roasted malts. Into the finish it picks up a pleasing sense of earthiness.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: OCT 20, 2005 Aroma was of chocolate and coffee with a bit of roasted malt. Appearence was very dark with a good head that went away pretty quick. Tastes like Fuller’s London Porter but with a little more alcohol. Watery, east to drink and doesn’t coat your mouth. Not too subtle, but not to strong, a good difinitive porter.

On tap at the brewpub in Idaho. Pours a almost pure black color with a large white head and lots of lacing. The aroma was rich; roasted, almost smoky malts, chocolates and coffee. The flavor was great; a strong mix of coffee, chocolates and a powerful roasted malt. Lots of flavor. Very nice.

12 ounce can from Hayduke. We had it together via facebook chat. This poured with a nice big tan head and was dark brown with some red. The aroma was chocolate with some kind of swampy note. I never could identify it. The flavor was also fairly soft chocolate in front. Very light hop notes were a bit sour. It is earthy. That unidentified aroma is also tasted and remained unidentified. This was a nice beer that could have been a stout with the fairly rich feel.

This was a joint tasting with Strykzone via Facebook Chat. This beer poured from the 12 oz can a dark red appearing brown with a very robust tan head and light lacing. nose of roasted malts showing coffee, chocolate and a hint of smoke. Light to medium body with kind of a thin mouth feel. the flavor was rich with chocolate forward, and some coffee, toffee, and a tiny bit of what Dave called Swampy. Good description. This beer was well balanced and easy drinking. Lots to like here.
