Aroma has a light maltiness with heavy hops, pine and grapefruit. Heavy bitterness with a long smokey malt flavor.

25 oz bottle, via Bück Dich. Pours a dark mahogany colored body with a small fine bubbled beige head. Nose is primarily citric hoppiness over a syrupy malty base. Notes of nuttiness, caramel, alcohol, and dark fruits. Flavor is aggressive hoppiness backed by a thick caramel malt and alcohol base. Finish is bitter with alot of warming alcohol. There’s alot going on here, but it doesn’t seem to meld well. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with nice fine moderate carbonation. It becomes a little syrupy and sticky on the finish. There’s alot of flavor in this beer, but it seems like flavor for flavor’s sake. Rather in-your-face, maybe with some time this would mellow some.

harlequinn (2744) - Tacoma, Washington, USA - MAR 14, 2006
This had more of an English style flavor to it than an American, but nonetheless. Extremely tasty, with some really nice sweet maltiness, some dark candied fruits, rum glaze and just a hint of coconut spiciness. Delicious and a tasty winter warmer.

On Tap at brewpub: This brew looks thick and murky as you view it. The server told me it had a 10% alchohol rating rather than the 7% listed above. I could taste the sweetness of the alcohol and feel a slight burn in the throat. The alcohol dominated the aromas. It has a quick finish followed by an interestingly pleasant lingering aftertaste.

On tap. Chocolate color, smells of malt and hints of spices. Light spiced flavor with an alcohol aftertaste.

Pours a nice hazy dark amber color. Has a nice toasted malt aroma, maybe some toffee hints, a little hops. Flavor has a smokey-sweet malt taste, with a touch of hops.

IndianaRed (2490) - Boise, Idaho, USA - DEC 8, 2005
On Tap at the brewpub Hazy, deep reddish brown with a small light tan head and sturdy lasting lacing. Deep malty aroma, easy on the hops and some hints of the ABV coming through. Flavors were sweet malty, a bit woody and the alcohol is noticable. Nice smooth and fairly heavy feel. Again, not too hoppy but otherwise strong all around.

Ernest (6231) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAR 27, 2005
Head is initially large, frothy, off-white, fully lasting. Body is hazy dark amber. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread, cookie), lightly hoppy (flowers, orange), lightly yeasty (sweat, dough). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lighlty sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, slightly unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Watery, crude.

Crosling (1863) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - MAR 27, 2005
Easter Sunday tasting w/ Ernest. Aubrey and Brian. Dark copper color with a large head. Light toffee-laden malts with hints of caramel along with an abrasive flowery hop presence in the nose. Equally expressive malty and hoppy flavor but abrasive and somewhat strange.

Murky amber. Thin, fluffy body. Zingy notes of lemon, burnt caramel and toasted toffee. Flowery, grassy bitterness. Very mild sweetness. Dryish, bitter finish.
