3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
50 cL bottle. Pour deep dark brown with a huge creamy and diminishing chocolate brown head. Aroma has a noce blend of toffee, chocolate and some mild roasted notes. Flavour starts rather sweet, showing a short caramel malt sweetness before a more solid and yet smooth chocolate flavour takes over. A minor note of liqourice appears before the finish and together with the bitterness gives the finish a little bite. Lovely, yet it goes well on its own without food and not together with food - actually not that Christmassy imho.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottled. A hazy red-brown beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of pumpernickle bread, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with primar notes of caramel, but also lighter notes of pumpernickle bread and earth, leading to a dry bitter and slightly roasted finish.

27th April 2009
Clear deep brown - red beer. Medium crisp palate. Spiced Xmas beer. Smooth chocolatey malt. The spicing is quite subtle. Maybe a pinch of cinnamon and ginger? Lively carbonated bite in the finish. Nicely joined up but just a little cloying.

Draught at the brewpub in Aalborg
Dark amber to red-brown color. Light caramel aroma, with a sweet touch of spices, almost herbal, minty. Caramel flavor with clear spicy character (cinnamon and star anis overall). Correct bitterness, with medium dark caramel in the end. Very typical Nordic Jule Øl.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: APR 24, 2010 On tap at the brewpub, 2008 vintage. It pours an almost clear, brown body under a nice beige head. Orangepeel, loads of orangepeel and christmas spices like cloves and cardamom in the aroma. The malts struggle to fight their way to the front, but isn’t much succesful aromawise. The flavor on the other hand, has a nice malty sweetness, along with orangepeel and spices. Spiced finish too, but not so intense on orange peel. Medium body and a nice carbonation. A pleasant, special, easy to drink beer but probably in need of less spices and orangepeel. Rating: 7-4-7-3-15-3.6. 081022
Bottel, 2009 vintage. It pours a clear, copper-colored body with a nice, finger-thick beige head. Spiced nose with orange, anise, clove and cardamom. Toffee and nuts in the back. The flavor has a caramel sweetness, with nuts and some hoppy bitterness. Quite spiced, a bit too much I think. Orange-peel bitterness in the finish, as well as orange and spices. Full-bodied. Too spiced for my palate, or at least with the wrong combo and amounts of spices. Still a quite drinkable beer, maybe some gingerbread would be suitable with this one. 100424
