Draft at Standard market. I had memories of the E-Ville Imperial Porter Tim made at Rock Bottom Yorktown. This is not that. This is a deep brown, served in a shaker glass, with a thin porter style head. Nice nose of warmly roasted malt. The taste is where the hops appear: Mostly piney, but in enjoyable proportions. Odd little thread of Coca-Cola at moments, part of its complexity. Citrus hop notes later on. But this seems to mostly plays up its malts, with some raisin over a bit of graininess. Lingering malty aftertaste.

4oz draft at brewery. Pours brown with mahogany hues with a small off white head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, and slight hops. Taste of caramel, malt, toffee, and hops. This medium bodied brew has a great balance and goes down easy.

On draft at the brewery, poured a dark brown color with aroams of chocolate, toffee, hops, and some light citrus. Flavors are the same with some hops in the aftertaste, a nice beer overall.

jstraw (1900) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 29, 2012
Dark mahogany with good, creamy, beige head / Light nose of coffee, chocolate, and weed / Medium body, some chewiness, hoppy but not biting, excellent balance and fair, bitter finish / Flavors of weed, dark roast coffee, and unsweetened chocolate, with grapefruit notes / Could use a bigger fruit punch, but still a fine hoppy brown.

Draft at so, pours mahogany with creamy white head. Aroma is rather faint, some grapefruit rind and chocolate, really tame nose. Flavors have milk chocolate and piney hop notes, citrusy finish. Good bitterness here. Finish is short. Body is full (fuller than the American stout). Wish I had the hops of nourri au fourrage in this guy. Very similar beers. Good but makese wish I was drinking Argus.

Draft on tap at the brewery (Naperville, IL). A couple new beers debut.. And I’m there. Pours a rich brownish pour preaching copper ruby glow on the bottom, on the edges, with a firm haziness that gives way to striking deep clean glow. A frothy tannish head sits atop and laces ok overall, sticks around as a firm film. Aromas are biscuity malts, carmelized and toffee jabs mix with chestnuts, touches of cocoa, darker breads, toast, and touches of red dried fruit. A kiss of orange, biscuits, gentle earthy malty quality. Touch of spice, dry earthy hops give way to a firm darker earthy and biscuity/toffee malt profile. Initial is fruity, red fruit and biscuits meet, some toffee, raspberries, and preserves. Touches of toast, caramel and carmelization, bready malts, touches of chestnut, crunch berries. Touches of soapy and earthy dry hops, some mellow citrusy hops give some life into the middle and backend, dry floral and bitter earthy hops. Gentle carmelization, lingering touches of sticky and carmelized malts, biscuits, and that crunch berry element really sticks around with cocoa dusting elements dancing in and out. A bit sweet initially, this beer picks up some complexity and balance, nice dry bitter hops into the backend. Really came together for me as I got through it. Hop profile really picks up and wins me over into the latter half of the brew. Grapefruit, oranges, and florals. Touches of grass, dry bitter hops. Nice brew here.

HonkeyBra (3108) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - JUL 7, 2012
64 oz. growler from the brewery. Medium brown pour with a small, eggshell colored head. Strong, pine and citrus hop aroma with some caramel and toffee, touches of brown sugar. Flavor is hoppy, nicely bitter, with citrus and pine notes. Some resin notes for as well. The malt presence is roasty, mild sweetness, mild chocolate and toffee presence. The malt backbone provides a nice backing for the hops. Palate is full, medium bodied, nice carbonation. Finishes with chocolate and hops. Pretty good beer.
