4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
- on tap @ Farmhouse in Chicago. Every now and then a beer comes along that takes me by surprise and makes me happy. This is such a beer. Very new to the craft beer scene, I hadn’t even heard of them when I found this on tap at Farmhouse, and even the bartender couldn’t offer much info. Bright hazy orange, low creamy orange-tinted head. Luscious aroma of fresh tropical fruit (mango, guava, lychee, ruby grapefruit) with a touch of pine. Palate is juicy and literally bursting with fruity hop character. The malts are in perfect balance here, adding structure without stealing anything from the hops. Finish is long and very bitter. A refreshing, balanced, and highly drinkable hop bomb. Wow-- I cannot wait to try other offerings from these guys!

Thanks highwine! Taste is good. Pours reddish orange with a white head. Fruit bowl aroma hint of caramel. Melon, grass, some orange and grapefruit peel taste. Medium body with light carbonation. Good mouth feel. Lacking on the hop department but not maybe because of freshness? Not sure when bottle.

Although I’ve had this on tap before, 22 oz. bomber. Pours a reddish amber color with a thin white sticky head. Aroma of herbal and tea hops, as well as citrus and floral hops. Touches of pine. Flavor is focused on citrus hops and with some bready malt backing. Full, thick mouthfeel. Some booze towards the finish. This drinks a bit heavier than 7.7%. Pretty powerful, but tasty stuff.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bomber. Pours a hazy, burnt orange, medium white head, little in the way of retention. Nose is some grass, cereal and burnt rubber. Mouth is medium bodied, grainy, bread dough, some moldy oranges, and a bitter finish that does nothing to round out an unflattering palate. I’d heard good things about Solemn Oath, but I gotta be honest, this was a real disappointment -- especially at 8.99 for a bomber.
