A bit of booze underneath brown sugar and a mild citrus and pine character.

On draught at Apex. Deep, dark golden color. Aroma of candied apricot. Amazing sweet taste, with caramel, apricot, citrus, and a small hop kick. Finishes quite smoothly, with slight bitterness and alcohol note.

Draft at Jerry’s SO Event. Dark, clear red-amber with modest, creamy, off-white head / Sweet, winey nose of dark fruit, citrus, brown sugar, toast / Full but lean body, malty, sweet but not overly so, and syrupy, malty with modest hop balance and some bitterness on the finish / Flavors of spun sugar, brown sugar, toffee, orange peel, date, raisin, sherry, coffee, chocolate, cinnamon, clove / More of a bock style, with hops subdued.

Amber redish color, no head. Smells like gummy bears, with malt. Smooth mouth feel. A little bit of a burn in the finish. Could be dangerous if you are drinking a bunch.

On tap at Whirlyball in Vernon Hills. Pours a golden orange with a white head leaving some lacing. Aroma has lovely fruits, plus sweet caramel and more fruits. Taste is of fresh pitted fruits (mango, apricot?), citrus fruits, overripe fruits and sweet caramel. This is very good - not a barleywine guy, per se, but this may be the best I’ve had. Lotta taste and flavor. Some alcohol presence, but also not as strongly as other barleys.

10oz pour at Emporium Arcade. Syrupy sweet up front. Big acidity brings out carmel and apricot. Honey. Light bodied for a barleywine. Not getting a ton of hops, but the acidity provides balance. Nice but actually a bit simple for such a big beer.

On tap at Warrens since the taproom sold out instantly...Boozey...smell of alcohol, malt and burnt brown sugar witha little bit of fruity hop, but very clean. The taste is very clean witha bunch of malt forward on it, almost a hoppy red ale. Well balanced, and more sweet than bitter. I’d like to try it in a year.

Draft on tap at the brewery (Naperville, IL). Pours a rich deep copper hue, gentle kiss of haze, darker body with a big cakey tannish head atop that stays firmly sized, laces well. Aromas are sticky sweet caramel, toffee, and biscuits. Orange marmalade, gentle chestnut, kiss of spice. Some dry floral and earthy spice, more caramel and toffee. Sticky sweeter malts with a touch of life, gentle earth, toffee, carmelized and toasty malts. Initial is a fuller body, a bit dry up front, more more dry than the nose let on. Sticky caramel and toast meet dry earthy and floral hops, a bit of spice, gentle oranges. Middle is a bit more sticky, some girthy malts, toast, and biscuits. Lots of orange, citrusy backend, touches of sweetness but much more dry than the front end presented. Touches of spice, toast, and carmelized malts. A girthy feel at times, firmly or bigger body, but the hops hold some ground in the actual beer (the nose being very sweet for me). Solid offering.. Like to see the barrel results.
