Spicy and a touch sweet. Not a bit impressed. Can see solemn oath is up to the same stuff.

I will start out by saying this rating is for the bottled version I've been to the brewery and had it on tap and cask vastly preferred the cask version thought it was one of the better barley wines I've had better than behemoth. Not nearly as boozy allowed the malts to shine with a nice low carb and booze warmth great on cask. Probably will develop much better after cellaring. Anyways in the bottle the malts don't come through nearly as much neither does the nice warm aroma a lot of the delicious flavor is trumped by the alcohol flavor. It pours beautifully clear nice dark red color. It's definitely a delicious barley wine gets much better as it gets to room temp just not nearly as good as what I had before.

Bomber crushed with Honkey. Hazy reddish-brown pour with a white head. Aroma gives an initial hit of acetaldehyde. Off-putting immediately. Flavor has some hops, but more squashy bad stuff. Bummer.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber feom Binny’s Des Plaines. Pours clear copper with an off-white head. Aromas of darkmfruits, sweet malts, caramel, and grassy hops. Flavors of bitter hops, caramel, bready malts, fruit, and booze, a ton of booze. Finishes bitter and boozy.Really disapointing. I want to support local breweries, but at $10 a bomber it should at least be enjoyable which this was not. If you are going to call it a barley wine either go the English direction, or hop the shit out of it like I thought this was going to be. This tasted like a bitter old ale.

22 oz. bottle. Deep red pour with a thick beige head. Aroma of red fruits, caramel malts, generic sweet malts, mild tropical fruit notes. Flavor is medium bitterness with a fair amount of sweetness. Pretty nice, no apparent alcohol, lots of fruit notes. This is pretty balanced. It’s not particularly hop forward nor malt forward. Full bodied, with a very bitter finish. Interesting.

Very fruity like punch. One of the first barleywines I've liked. Poured from draft at Monkey Paws at the Solemn Oath beer dinner. 8oz pour.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Had on tap at Wild Monk, served in a 10 oz. snifter.
A: Pours a mahogany color with a yellowish head forming on the pour. it recedes to a thin ring that leaves some splotchy lace down the glass.
S: Caramel and crystal malts on the nose with some sweetness and fruitiness. A little pine sap as well. Underlying booziness reminding you that it’s %11.
T: The booze comes out much more in the taste than in the nose. The alcohol isn’t medicinal, but rather slightly fruity. Not hot at all. It mixes with the fruity hops and pine tree like sap flavors with a heavily sweetened malt profile. Slight bitterness.
M: Light to medium bodied, drinks like DIPA. Medium carbonation with a sweet finish.
O: The really drank like an old, boozy DIPA. I would have liked a heavier body with some more dark fruit flavors to bring it into the barleywine territory. Not bad overall though.
Serving type: on-tap

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sample at Standard Market. Amber IPA color, but clearer. Thin head in a ring around the edge. My taste was too small in the tiny glass to get much of a sniff. Taste is not as hoppy as, say, Bigfoot, Focused more on the crystal roast malts, which let the alcohol come in and warm me up.

Tap at APEX, PDX, 26/05/13.
Clear chestnut brown with a thin light beige head.
Nose is toffee fudge, brown sugars, caramel, dates, figs, hint of booze.
Taste comprises sweet toffee, dark fruits, touch of booze, dates, prunes, dark sugars.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, boozey sweet finish.
Ok BW, alcohol well integrated, solid enough but no world beater.
