Draft at Jerry’s SO Event. Darker gold with modest, frothy white head / Deep, mellow nose of citrus, tropical fruit, honey, soap, violet, clove / Full body, sweet, syrupy, and somewhat cloying, fruity, big hop bite and bitter finish underneath / Muddy flavors of cut pine, orange peel, grapefruit, honey, soap, clove / For me, a very clumsy effort by this fine brewer.

On draught at Gigantic’s Chicagoland Beers event at Apex. Clear golden color. Light yeast and malt aroma. Golden grape, slight hop, great yeast profile. Finishes with a little spice.

on tap at bangers for the takeover event. quick rate... pours a hazy golden orangey brown hue, mostly non-transparent but allowing some light to pass through. topped with a thin soapy white head...aroma of semi-juicy citrus esthers that pair beside that belgian yeast predominancy that i found present in a number of their brews from this evening. fairly clean and straightforward... flavors are more of the same with a sweetness throughout without a corresponding dryness on the backend. belgian yeast, bananas, and citrus notes for the most part. medium to just above that with adequate carbonation. ok.

Had tap at the Solemn Oat beer dinner at Wild Monk. Served in a pilsner-esque taster. A: Pours a clear golden color with a thin whtie head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thin ring and it leaves some sticky lace down the glass. S: Some light pear, stone fruit and yeast all show up in the nose. The yeast is slightly peppery and phenolic. Some light cracker malts are present as well to give it a litte edge. T: The taste follows the nose. Nice stone fruit and pear flavors mixed with some spicy, peppery yeast. Lighter malts show up on the finish. M: Light to medium bodied, this is definitely heftier than most other saisons. Nice medium carbonation level with dry, almost chalky finish. O: I actually really enjoyed this. The 6 oz. pour I had was perfect and I’d definitely try this again. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 09-28-2012

Draught at the brewery. Pours a dark orange amber with a thin creamy head. Not particularly funky with a little yeasty esther, more dry and earthy aroma. Flavor is dry, tart with little sourness. Finishes dry, nice crisp carbonation. Solid.

4 oz. taster at S.O. "Plain" saison funk in the nose… I say "plain" because I’ve the white pepper variation in the next glass. Taste also has that happy rustic ale funk and fruitiness of a warm ferment. Not so tart as they claim, but instead some stone fruit and dubbel sweetness.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a hazed, golden-orange colored body with an inch thick, dense and frothy, white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is fruity and somewhat spicy with a lightly sweetened, bready malt backing. Some citruses with a light tartness, Belgian yeast pepper, a light floral note, and a few melon fruits. Flavor is similar. Fruity with a somewhat spicy Belgian yeast up front before a lightly sweetened, bready malt backing comes in. A bit earthy with some pepper and melon before this finishes fairly fruity and lightly tart with some yeast spice and a moderate bitterness that dries this out with a light malt sweetness. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a moderately lively carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid saison. Fairly fruity with a nice, dry, somewhat spicy bitterness balanced with a firm, bready malt backing. I like the light tartness in the finish as well. Nice beer.
