The launch of Somersby represents Carlsberg’s first venture in the UK’s mainstream cider market. The cider brand is currently available in 22 other countries, after being released in Denmark and Norway in 2008. However, the UK version of Somersby will be a "completely different liquid" to the version avaiable elsewhere, a Carlsberg spokesperson told just-drinks.

Good gold colour, large bubbles which die away quickly. Odd aroma, cant quite place it but its not apples! Slightly sweet with an acidic streak, not particularly appley, finish is reasonable. Overall, a commercial style, lacks character. From Tesco, £1.

50cl bottle. Looks like a cheap cartonned apple juice, smells like a cheap cartonned apple juice; dry chemical taste with some underlying apple, but also a handful of chalk. Not good - I guess all the money went on the (rather good) TV ads, not on the product.

Bottle ripponden watching Tour de France Yorkshire. Drunk from bottle. Aroma is apple pulp. Taste is apple sweet and slight tart finish. Carbonation bit strong. Not the best mass produced cider on the market.

Can 44 cl poured into a lambic glass. Pours a clear golden with a really small and fading white head and an aroma of apple juice and sour apples. The taste is also very much like apple juice too, with a really fizzy mouthfull. Just an everyday supermarket-cider.

Bottled 26/04/14. A greeny gold coloured cider with no head. Not a lot going on here at all really. Seems like apple sweetened alcoholic grape juice in that there’s very little apple character. Not nasty but just nothing to get excited about.

500ml bottle from local shop. Clear deep golden colour, white foam head and aroma of sour yogurt & apple. Taste is sweet, juicy apple concentrate with cardboardy notes and a tart edge. Watery, light bodied, medium carbonation, some residual sweetness in the finish. OK.

This tastes of value apple juice that is made from apple concentrate, it’s smell and taste is too appley for cider and has obviously been added but it isn’t a bad tasting drink and when it’s on offer I would buy it again.

Can. Apples. Tang with some sweetness. Refreshing. Dry finish. Higher quality than Strongbow, more akin to a Magners. Tastes watered down.

Keg tap at the Golden Lion, Osmotherley, 04/10/13. Clear golden with a thin white head. Nose is light apple, sweet artificial apple. Taste comprises apple chews, sweet, orchard e numbers, light apple. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, crisp and sweet in the finish. Fairly refreshing but lacking, has mass produced and long life all over it !
