COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The launch of Somersby represents Carlsberg’s first venture in the UK’s mainstream cider market. The cider brand is currently available in 22 other countries, after being released in Denmark and Norway in 2008. However, the UK version of Somersby will be a "completely different liquid" to the version avaiable elsewhere, a Carlsberg spokesperson told just-drinks.

Good gold colour, large bubbles which die away quickly. Odd aroma, cant quite place it but its not apples! Slightly sweet with an acidic streak, not particularly appley, finish is reasonable. Overall, a commercial style, lacks character. From Tesco, £1.

Keg at The Wheatsheaf & Pigeon, Staines, Surrey. Pale straw with no head. Watery, fizzed apple drink, thin and bordering on sweet mush. Not very good.

From a plastic bottle at the Emirates Stadium.
The aroma and flavour don’t differ that much from the Scandinavian version but I guess it’s different. Musty apple, mild dryness and some sweetness. Drinkable.

440ml can. Looks like fizzy apple juice. Aroma of apple juice, grape/wine. Taste is more like an apple flavoured alcopop than a cider. Carbonation is like a sparkling wine.

Bottle shared with McTapps. Simple one with some red apples, bit of grape and slightly in the citrus fruits. Sweetish one with no inspiration nor deep body. Drinkable and average.

50cl bottle. Looks like a cheap cartonned apple juice, smells like a cheap cartonned apple juice; dry chemical taste with some underlying apple, but also a handful of chalk. Not good - I guess all the money went on the (rather good) TV ads, not on the product.
