Nose is light roasted notes, brown bread, liqourice, spice.
Taste comprises earthy cocoa, toffee, spice, mellow dark fruit notes.
Medium bodied, soft carbonation, hint of bitterness in a mellow close.

From cask. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted dark malty, breadish. Bitter, roasted, breadish and subdued sweet. Light liqourice note. Dark chocolate. Medium dry and roasted malty finish.

Gravity cask @ Bedford Beer Festival, 2013. Brown/black, no head. Aromas of blackberry and chocolate malt: light and complex. Sweet taste with a grainy bitter finish. Aftertaste is sour/bitter. Good but imperfect mild.

Clear dark brown colour with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, burnt, dark roasted, strong coffee. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, roasted, coffee, dusty, dark roasted. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat.

Very burnt aroma, too much so for Anna. At the other end, the finish was very nicely roasted, though. In the middle, a pleasant chocolatiness, but definitely very roasted. Black, with a beige head.

Cask conditioned at Cambridge Winter Ales Festival ’13. Mahogany with white head. Smooth fruity, nutty mild, good and flavoursome a hint of sweetness with an additional hopped bitterness. A very pleasant mild.

Cask@GBBF2012. Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, leather, some earth and mild toffeeish and ripe fruity notes. Flavour is roasted malts, some floral and ripe fruits with mild ashy and syrupy notes towards the finish.
