David and Robert both love bourbon. We mean love bourbon. Maybe thatís why they didnít beat around the bush here. Sure, you can age subtly in bourbon barrels. And subtlety is sometimes enough. But, with the Anvil, the real spark ignited when we tossed nuance aside and added a healthy measure of our proprietary barrel-proof bourbon flavor. Suddenly, something intense, alive and memorable happened. To our palates, it offers a clean, lively, aromatic presence with a layered smoky finish. Itís truly integrated and rounded, yet vitally distinct. Enjoy.

Bottle. Clear copper. No head. Aroma has tart apples and a hint at barrel notes. Taste is mildly tart and apply. Lighter body. Moderate carbonation.

Not sweet at all. Somewhat bitter. Can taste the bourbon flavoring. Not a lot of fizz.

Oh, what the hell? A soda pop cider w/ bourbon barrel flavoring. Honestly, fuck this stuff. It smells like leather and sawdust and tastes like leather and sawdust plus sweet apple juice with Smarties candies dissolved in it. It is full bodied and kind of heavy on the plate, a bit tart which almost works w/ the sweetness but seems to clash w/ the bourbon flavoring. I donít like this in principle and I donít like it in practice. For something similar that actually tastes pretty good check out Woodchuck Oak Aged.

Bottle pour. Pours a darker copper color with a heavy apple aroma. The bourbon is definitely there on this one, and you can taste it from the very beginning. Bourbon flavor, but not boozy. Fresh apple flavor. This wasnít too bad, but something does seem missing. An interesting, creative, unique cider here. Enjoyed it.

> Heavier, sweet butterscotch American/English style cider

[ Bottle ][ 500ml? ][ t0rin0 ][ Tasting ][ Glazen Toren Stemmed Tulip ][ 8.22.14 ]
>> Clear deep golden pour, good white foam with longer retention than almost all cider. Good lacing even. Nose is apple Jolly Rancher, butterscotch, macadamia, vanilla. Taste is juicier, butterscotch, spicier. Rich, denser mouthfeel. Definitely in the "sweet" cider realm. Even though it has a lot of butterscotch, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

>!< butterscotch all over

Aroma is apples, fruit and a hint of earth/chocolate. The flavor is apples, fruit, chocolate bread, mild/medium sweetness and a very tart finish.

Bottle. Pours with a pale, clear golden hued body with a fizzy white head that fades. Aromas are of honey, raw oak, vanillin, cream soda, quite smokey, almost a hint of scotch, almost a slightly malted oxidized character. Odd. Flavors show mild acidity, intense vanillin, light smoke. Very much like a sour cream soda with a hint of apple character. To me, it clearly tastes like artificial whiskey essence/extract, which is disappointing. Mild mineral and tannin balance. A touch sweet. I really would like to try one of their ciders aged in a bourbon barrel. Lively carbonation.

Bottle: Clear, browning straw and a little dull. light head. Dominated by sweet oak. No fruit. dull slow ferment profile. Coarse. Dry, fat and short. Coarse. No fruit flavors just raw oak. Reminds me of Rombaurer Chardonnay. Nothing fresh. Torn as to whether this will work or not. Cougar juice.

Bottle. Pours a pale gold with visible carbonation and no head. Nose is malic, funky, and a little skunky. Dry and malic on the tongue; Iím not getting any bourbon. Instead, itís a lot of unpleasant overtones; vinegar, funk, artificial vanilla, and what I can only describe as lemon Pledge. Finish is tight and sour. íProprietary barrel-proof bourbon flavorí is apparently a code word for ícheaping it outí. Pass.

bottle. golden with small head. i thought i would like this the best of the three varieties, and was saving it for last, but itís rather underwhelming and definitely in third place. average cider with light bourbon. thin.
