TURDFERGUSON (1021), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Jul 14, 2008 Bottle, shared by acrdz. Thanks Mike! Pours dark red with no head. Nose is heavy sweet malts, honey, maple syrup, more sugar, and alcohol. Flavor has some sugary bourbon notes, more honey and maple, and a bit of dark fruit. Chewy palate. Very interesting and glad I got a chance to try this. acrdz (4148), Pennsylvania, USA Jul 14, 2008 Bottle 621/1000. Still pour, no carbonation, as expected, of course. Color of dark maple/plum/brown. Some amount of booziness in the nose, some heavy maple, wood and sweetened bourbon notes, some nuts, toast, more maple… smells really good, actually. Silky, oily and moderately thick (just below heavy), with a strong note of dry wood, very strong flavor of maple-flavored bourbon, some nuts, breads, etc. Warming but not boozy or hot. Nice stuff, drinks like a dessert liqueur. kmweaver (1813), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Jul 13, 2008 390mL bottle, sampled at the 1st Annual Shenandoah Beer Throwdown, courtesy of acrdz. Thanks, Mike! Pours a viscous, dark amber color; headless. Lots of maple syrup, viscous dark dried fruits, and roasted meats in the aroma; fair amounts of smokiness; minimal alcohol coming through for how big this is; soft edges. Full mouthfeel: loads of maple syrup, dark fruits, and sweet candy sugar maltiness; warming presence, definitely; nothing rough overall though; very viscous, dense, intense maple syrup sweetness; a very generous, crazy beer. Lengthy finish: maple syrup and loads of sweetness; some breadiness and wet malts. Miver (299), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 3, 2008 Bottle # 169. Poured clear brown in color. Aroma of grain, and nuts. Tastes of sweet maple sugar, caramel, nutty and smoked meat like. Taste is smooth and little warm with alcohol, but not as bad as I was expecting. I was glad to try this one. Thanks Steve! BleacherBum (149), Blowing Rock, North Carolina, USA Jun 17, 2008 Brown sugar, ham and woody aroma. More of the same in the flavor. Alcohol was surprisingly absent. No carbonation or head. This is hardly beer. More like a light brandy. BBQ brandy! Interesting and smooth, but not a well-executed high gravity "beer". Would try again, as it’s more an easy drinking liquor. Enjoyable.
