Commercial Description:
In early July, 2006 in commemoration of our 10th Anniversary, and the brewing of the 100th Batch of beer brewed at our new Pinnacle Peak brewery, Brewmaster Scott Yarosh wanted to do something different. The “Sonoran 100” is a naturally fermented Malt liqueur flavored with Honey and a hint of Maple. After the 9 week fermentation, we aged our “100” for several months before running the whole batch through our custom filter of toasted Maple and Oak wood chips. The result was a Bourbon-like brew that is best served in a small snifter or as a shot on the rocks for those that prefer it chilled. This 19.5 % ABV is the first brew in a continuing series of “Extreme Brews” the Sonoran Brewing Company has planed. Every 100 batches we will brew something wild! Keep an Eye out for It!

Was lucky enough to find one of these during a trip to Tucson...I believe at AJ’s Fine Food’s. Everyone is right...the bottle is worth some of the price itself! Will hold onto that one for a while... This pours a deep amber with absolutely no head. Notes of oak, vanilla, sweet malts, and sherry almost. Flavor gets all of the nose plus a bit of extra sugaryness from a bunch of maple notes. Very sweet and syrupy. Thick body, alcohol present throughout. What’s amazing...is, it’s somehow kind of thin! Not quite sure how that can happen with something 19+%...but its definitely getting docked a bit as this was definitely missing something. Overall, complex and a good idea JUST missed.

Bottle #954 of 1000. Courtesy redlight, thanks Brent. Pours a very muddy caramel brown color with no head forming at all. It just looks thick and syrupy. The aroma is strong and enticing and not what you would think by just looking at it. Hints of sweet maple, chocolate syrup, honey, brown sugar, and vanilla oak all come through. The flavor follows with maple syrup, brown sugar, vanilla and caramel. A smokey flavor starts to come through as it warms probably from the burnt oak. Medium bodied and syrupy mouthfeel with subtle carbonation. There is a nice warming feeling from the alcohol, but you would never know it is 19.5% abv. This is a very unique beer with being so extreme and certainly enjoyable as a dessert beverage in small quantities.

Bottle via a trade with hellbilly, shared at the Stone Sourfest. Pours with a hazy auburn maple body. aroma of smoke, scotch, leather and raisin. Taste is raisin, scotch, leather, maple, oak and rye. Very syrupy mouthfeel. Love the tequila bottle shape, fooled Greg Koch at Stone into thinking it was liquor, before he realized that it was beer.

Poured a clear dark amber color with no real head. The aroma had a smokey and doughy quality mixed into semi-sweet malt. There is a taste of alcohol which can be expected but not too much burn for almost 20%. The flavor was actually kind of on the bland side.

Thanks for bringing this to a tasting, General_Gao. The body was dark brown with no head. The aroma was rich and leathery with some caramel. This had an aged cellar type smell that made me think of oxidation. The taste had some smoky malts with a little bit of apples. There was also some dank cellar, but it dominated and detracted from the beer. You gotta love the bottle which made me think of maple syrup.

2009-01-24. Hazy dark amber body, headless. (3+) Sweet aroma is a bit smoky, like honey ham or sweet smoked pecans. Flavour is quite different with a tangy malt, very mild smoky undertones, light bitterness throughout. Tangy fruit character. Bit odd to be honest but kind of interesting. (7+) Smooth average to medium bodied palate. An experience. Bottle 788 of 100, Coles Rare Beer Fest, Buffalo
