Bottle from Daknole - thanks! Small gusher on opening, and almost impossible to pour effectively. Gigantic bordering on monstrous brown head, puffy but not creamy at all. Dissipates slowly mainly due to sheer size, leaving clumpy lacing blobs on the glass. Pours opaque black. Aroma is roasty, anise, chocolate, perhaps cardboard. Flavor is light sweet, a LOT of anise and burned malt notes, medium bitter. Intensely, distractingly carbonated. Medium body, some acidity presumably from burned malts. Ashy. Well, at least its not infected, which was my first thought, but it doesnt have a whole lot going for it either. ADDENDUM: if you let it sit for 30 minutes or so the carbonation dies down and the beer becomes a lot more appreciatable. Not necessarily good, but decent.

On tap at Whole Foods a few weeks back. Poured a dark black color. Aroma and flavor were both strong, with roasted malt, fruit, coffee and alcohol. Flavorful, but didn’t wow me.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of dschiller (I believe). Thanks! Pours a black appearance with a thin brown head. Big anise, burnt malty, kind of pepperminty, light veggie aroma. Twangy, black licorice, dark chocolate, fairly boozy, burnt malty flavor. Not a big fan.

651mL black and silver label from Papago Brewing bottle shop. Extremely overcarbonated pour. Head retention is insane and rocky. Nose is apple sauce, smoke, Maplewood BBQ. Taste is apple heavy, papery, harsh, ashy. Palate is dry, ashy, abrasive. Near metallic.

Bomber from Dak. Thanks! Pours black with a nice big creamy brown head. Big roasty aroma with some definite hops in the background, maybe some chocolate and hints of coffee. Creamy mouthfeel with huge roast flavor. Some lingering bittersweet chocolate left on the palate but mostly roasted roastiness. Some decent bitter. Low to medium carbonation. A bit of lingering alcohol on the end. Overall not bad.

Bottle from Dave. Thanks! Black in color with a nice tan head. Big roasted malt, chocolate, and licorice aromas. Hints of smoke, blueberry, coffee, and ash. The flavor is a touch on the bitter side. Lots of roasted malt, coffee, and licorice. Ash, blueberry, and a subtle smokiness.

Bottle at The Craft Mar 2013. Black beer tan head. Soy sauce oxidised burnt toffee flavour. Not good. Burnt and nasty

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate chocolate, caramel, vanilla, roasted coffee, and a hint of smoke. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a large light brown head with good retention. There’s some sporadic webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate dark chocolate and a touch of vanilla. The finish is moderately hoppy with pine and grapefruit. There’s also some light-moderate burnt notes and black coffee. It’s medium-full bodied with light-moderate carbonation.
