Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell, London. Thanks to Kenneth. Pours deep black with a staunch, brown cream cap. Sharp dark malt nose, iodine, chocolate syrup. Medium sweet flavor, burnt leaves, some soy sauce, dark cocoa, tangy dark fruits, raisins. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, tangy dark malts, grapes, raisins. Not bad. Some burnt wood. Decent overall.

Bottle from Dave. Thanks! Black in color with a nice tan head. Big roasted malt, chocolate, and licorice aromas. Hints of smoke, blueberry, coffee, and ash. The flavor is a touch on the bitter side. Lots of roasted malt, coffee, and licorice. Ash, blueberry, and a subtle smokiness.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of dschiller (I believe). Thanks! Pours a black appearance with a thin brown head. Big anise, burnt malty, kind of pepperminty, light veggie aroma. Twangy, black licorice, dark chocolate, fairly boozy, burnt malty flavor. Not a big fan.

hopscotch (9242) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - NOV 15, 2003
UPDATED: NOV 16, 2003 This beer rocks! Extremely Black ale with a creamy, well-tanned head. Poor retention, but good lacing. Smoke, espresso, dark chocolate and vanilla in the nose. Lots of bitter hops to go along with the burnt malt, espresso and bittersweet chocolate flavors. Full-bodied with a fatty, chewy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lengthy, burnt, bitter finish. Dry too! Wow! World class brew!

Tap at mellow mushroom. Damn pint glass. Black pour. Brown head. Chocolate, molasses and roasty aroma. Flavor follows suit with a nice sweet chocolate, molasses, coffe and roast. Great brew!
