Very nice aroma of fruit and floral, with a hint of alcohol. Taste is very big. Nice overall sweetness. I agree that it has a hint of spice in the finish. Alcohol taste is not very evident. This is balanced well. Very tasty. Indra (2041), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 28, 2003 Very strong, fruity and slightly doughy aroma, some caramel apple, faint spice, brown sugar, berry and alcohol. Light mahogany color, head subsided almost completely. Flavor starts in with a wave of syrupy malt sweetness, and becoming more estery and spicy. Lengthy finish which is warm and alcoholic, with a nip of hops amidst the towering maltiness. Oily and syrupy on the palate, low effervescence. Big stuff. nstal (237), Houston, Texas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 21, 2003 Had this guy after a 1200 mile drive. Brewpub didn't have it on tap, only in bottles. Very typical for a b-wine, nothing original. Good overall. aobecksy (661), Middle of no where, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 18, 2003 Same color as my hair; strong alcohol aroma, was at first scared. But flavor compensated greatly--like the stuff inside chocolate covered cherries that is not the cherry. Very dry finish. jsquire (2123), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 16, 2003 Red orange out of the bottle with a thin, almost green tinged head. Very complex nose of floral hops, whiskey and rubbing alcohol. Lots of hop bitterness balanced by a dark, fruity sweetness. Very dry beer. Candied orange rind flavor lasted for quite a while. Thanks to Brodie for this one. fraternie (710), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 3, 2003 Extremely sweet aroma. Vague notes of toffee. Malt is sweet indeed, some caramel flavor but the sweetness is perhaps a bit overdone. Smooth for the ABV but overwhelming sweetness hurts the palate. Not bad but a bit out of balance. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 2, 2003 Bottled at the RAF. Nice aroma with caramel, citrus fruit, a bit of berry, and nice dry malts. The flavor was just a bit sweet for me. Not enough to cover the sweetness. Not undrinkable, but I've had many better barleywines. argo0 (7044), Washington DC, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 24, 2003 (bottle) Clear red copper with minimal head. Aroma is sweet, barley wine-style malty/hoppy, fruity (berry?), slight alcohol. Taste is medium sweet, some floral hoppiness, fruity, very smooth. Hides it's alcohol very well. Very nice English-style barley wine.
