Quite dark red/brown, a bit of maroon shines through. head is a medium tan pillow. Nose is medium cocoa, some rich darker caramel, light dark fruits. All restrained but working together to make a cohesive whole. Flavor is cocoa and caramel. A hint of cola. Bittersweet finish reveals some nuttiness & continuation of the dark fruit.

Part of the Great Stuttgarter Beer Raid 2011. On tap at the brewpub. Pours a black color with a light tan head. Aroma is a slighty sour malt. Taste is roasted malt, nuts, and slight smoke. Palate is nice and mellow with some burnt malt.

Black beer with a reddish highlight. Mild nose has some coffee roast a bit of must, some dry grass. Balanced flavor with medium bitterness on light roast, faint espresso backdrop, very faint sour pumpernickel touch. I’d like more punch, but highly drinkable.

On tap: Deep ruby-amber coloured with a small and stable tanned head, presumably clear, mild to moderate sweetish-roasty nose with a dark-malty bitterness underneath; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; subdued chocolatey traces in the sweetish malty finish. Incredible: a good and tasty and clean beer from a modern german Hausbrauerei…

Draught at BBF13. Vinous aroma. Cloudy dark brown colour. Small off-white head. The flavour is malty with a faint hint of winegum. Spicy hops in the finish. Subtle flavour, but good.

From tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is fruity, dark malty and again slight butterish. Sweet, caramelish, toffee, breadish and mild fruity. Bitter and roasted malty finish.

Tap @ brewpub, 14/11/13. Pours a very dark auburn brown, almost black with an off-white, good-sized head. Aroma is malty with dark bread and dunkel-like dark fruitiness. Taste is malty, dark bread, light dark berries and fruit, somewhat earthy. Quite light with a lot of carbonation.

Draught@source, 07/2014. Decent enough roast-forward brewpub Schwarzes, clean and not as Köstritzer sweet and sticky as Calwer Eck’s neighbouring version. Bread crust, stalky-earthy hops. Obviously monodimensional and thinnish for sessioning.
