3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Aubrey (3343) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - APR 18, 2012
Bottle: Delicious stuff. Bold malt flavors (honey, grains, fermenting bread dough) complement some bold hop flavors (grassy, hay-like, earthy and spicy), yet it does it with finesse (balanced, clean, well made). It also has some pleasant notes of white wine and a variety of fruits. Moderate acidity and alcohol warmth. Hop bitterness is bolder than your traditional Belgian, but I like how they "bent" that rule. Full of flavor and a real pleasure to drink.

From tap. Opaque orange color with an off white head. The nose shows floral hop aromatics. Full bodied with an oily texture and hints of sweet citrus. The hops on the finish are intense and this drinks more like a West Coast DIPA than anything Belgian.

Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours clear light copper with a good creamy off-white head. Aroma is floral and fruity. A little nose burn - spice? Med body +. Flavor is peppery/spicy. Heat is not an issue, but the drink is warming. Flavor turns up something suggesting tropical fruit. Finish is quite hoppy in a non-citrus non-pine way. Not at all harsh. Quite smooth in fact. And always fruity. Quite nice.

Bottle thanks to Ben! Pours a clear gold with a white head that lasts throughout the beer and laces. Aroma has a good amount of sweet tropical fruit with a backing citrus hop with a hint of thick resin and sweet grain. Flavor begins light with tropical fruits and citrus but becomes a bit heavier with some resin and a syrupy sweet grain note.

Bomber; vibrant and crystal clear copper with thick creamy white head; sharp citrus aromas with white sugar, a little lemon peel, mango; big time hops up front, mango and sugar; creamy mouthfeel that isn’t overly yeasty, but has a light spice and fruit profile to it; strength is obvious with this one

Bottle at our Cellar Dip party... Poured amber, with a frothy, off-white head. Some noticeable hops with malt sweetness. The Belgian yeast flavors really shined making this taste like fruity candies. Passion fruit, citrus, yeast spices, bubblegum sweetness. Pretty nice.

Big fan of this brewery out the gate. This used to be the best in their arsenal, until Humulo Nimbus came out. Monks will satisfy the beer evangelist, and intoxicate everyone else. I loved this beer first for its originality. Pungent resinous hop flavor and aroma, immersed in a cauldron of belgian power. It’s somewhat hard to look past that aroma when searching for the belgian essence of the beer, but the yeast does the trick. Hard to tell whether this should be a Belgian Imperial IPA or something else, but its incredibly delicious whatever you call it.

Light amber and bright with a creamy head. The aroma has a lot of hops but also floral, bubblegummy phenols as well. Earthy hops help to balance a tripel that is otherwise very bubblegummy, floral and sweet. Finishes a little alcoholic.

Draft pour@Somewherecantremember. Clear amber color with lasting ivory foam. Nice tropical fruit, spicy yeast, caramel, floral aromas. Medium bodied with soft co2. Spicy belgian yeast, tropical fruit, caramel flavors with pit fruit, brown sugar, warming finish--great mix of sweet, spicy, and hoppy flavors here
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Beershine (5173) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - JAN 10, 2012
Draft @ Brouwers. Nice lacing thick white head. Huge oily hop aroma tons of resin, myrrh, pine essential oil intensity. A little soapy. Intense and strong. A little bit of the powder on the outside of the bazooka. Not coming together at all but at least the hops mask the problems, but it’s almost it’s as if that is all the hops are here for, rather than to create a nice brew.
