This golden IPA has a distinctly fruity aroma and a very fruity palate. Slight hits of malt follow afterwards, but then the fruit returns.

Cask (by gravity) at old firehouse, exeter. Seems to be in not optimal condition. Very flat beer, crystal clear amber coloured liquid with smooth thin head that lasts two thirds of the pint. Aroma dominated by yeasty esters, mostly banana, apple and acetone. Slight pine/citrus notes also come through. Very drinkable, mostly smooth texture with acrid sugary stickiness at the back of the throat. Very bitter, akin to burnt sugar. Taste comprises mostly of yeast esters described above with added floralness, some savory and grassy flavours coming through underneath. Slightly resinous. Long complex finish with notes of salted caramel, brown bread, banana, tangerine peel, grass and dill. Overall disappointed with the lack of hoppiness in an ipa, though could be due to the condition of the beer. Good example of the richness of yeast flavours.

Cask, handpump @ The Powder Monkey, Exmouth, Devon.
Produces up a yellow gold and just off bright with a persistent, compact white crown that manages good legs. Nose has hints of sour citrus like lime and lemon peel, a touch of sweet fruit flesh, and a good lot of wheat like notes and barnyard grain. Juicy and tangy ripe citrus fruit in the mouth, a little pineapple mixed with notes of pinewood. The backend is all nettles, raw, bitter hop flowers and quenching citric esters. The body light and a little residual carbonation gives it bounce. A good base of pale malt flavour keeps the fruit notes level. It gets better as the pint empties. This is a great bitter with all the hallmarks of a Golden ale. Nicely done, solid session material!
