Black with a medium slowly dissipating brown head and minimal lacing. Aroma of mint, bourbon, coffee, mild chocolate, dark roasted malts and alcohol. Yep, it tastes like a girl scout cookie – mint, chocolate, dark malt, caramel and light bourbon. I’m kind of glad the bourbon was minimal in taste since bourbon and mint don’t seem like a match made in heaven. I emailed South Shore over three years ago and told them to put the Mint Stout in bottles, so happy to see it got there, but would like to see it sans the bourbon. The minty finish lasted long after I polished off the very affordable bomber. 12oz would probably been a bit better as the law of diminishing returns kicked in towards the end.

750ml bottle poured into snifter. Dark black pour with thin head. Aroma has slight hints of peppermint and chocolate but not a lot of bourbon. Flavor isn’t too exiting. Very faint hints of chocolate and malt, other then that it’s somewhat bland and boring.

Smells of mint chocolate chip icecream. Finish is a combination of mint and hops.

Bottle thanks to someone at freetail release. Pours a near clear dark brown with an earthy brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of mint with roasted malts and a bit of sweet bourbon. Flavor has a bit of mint but mainly roaseted malt and a bit of bourbon,

poured a deep brown with a fizzy tan head that fades. aroma was very upfront with mint, then cinnamon, oak, and chocolate. flavor was mint, watery coffee, dark roasts, and alcohol. body was thin and fizzy. I had really high hopes for this one. I just wish the base was an impy stout or something stronger.

Bottle. Been sitting on this one for a while and finally cracked. Pours a dark brown color with a light tan head. The mint is very noticeable as soon as I poured the beer. Dark roast, chocolate, and mint all in the nose. Slight minty start that stays the whole time. Light chocolate and roast notes. Easy drinking and somewhat refreshing. The only let down is that the bourbon notes are pretty minimal. Medium bodied. Ever so slight lace. Overall, decent.

A very nice stout. The mint is subtle and compliments the chocolate nicely.

Had some big pours from this out of the bottle recently. Not sure how old it was. I was extremely impressed with this. Strong mint scent that fades into vanilla and chocolate sweetness as it warms. Really enjoyed this.

South shore bourbon barrel mint stout. 22oz bottle thanks to a recent trade... Pours a dark cola pour with lighter edges and roped with a thin light beige head... Aroma is slightly black licorice, mint through the middle with a slight bourbon bent in the finish... Flavors are thin with a light chocolate and mint bent. Too fluffy and lack of robust flavor. Barrel notes are a bit too assertive at the end adding a booziness that doesn’t mesh well with the consistency of the brew.

Purchased at Discount Liquors in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed on my 30th birthday with a good friend before watching the Home Run Derby. Appearance pitch black, like black coffee, with thin tan/cream head that rims around the glass. Aroma like a hodge podge of coffee, bourbon, peppermint, chocolate, and lactose...except that I can’t identify each ingredient separately, just smells like all those ingredients thrown into something. Taste is pretty good, its slightly smooth, very strong. The bourbon really comes through, each sip is somewhat shot-like. Seems like the peppermint provides a slight bite, coffee notes also apparent in the finish, leaves a slightly sour feeling. Also, the lactose/milkyness of this fades in the flavor, doesn’t taste very thick to me. Its pretty good stuff, happy to have given it a shot.
